The museum is in the historic center of Santiago Tuxtla,
Veracruz. In front in the plaza there is another of the big Olmeca heads. The building was built in 1873 as a municipal palace. In 1916 it was burnt and stayed in ruins until 1938. Pieces from the important Tres Zapotes archaeological area are here. There are also some interesting murals of the conquest. They have signs in English. It is a well appointed small museums.
