When visiting Northern Mexico, your traveling opportunities duplicate as you can easily arrive by Mexico or by United States.
If you are traveling into Baja California, Tijuana, Mexicali, La Paz and San Jose del Cabo receive Mexican national flights (La Paz and San Jose del Cabo airports have connections from U.S. airports) coming from all over Mexico. Most international travelers fly into a major destination such as Mexico City and Guadalajara and from there make connections to the North. But travelers can fly into San Diego International Airport. Located just 20 minutes north of the US-Mexican border, the airport is serviced by major American airlines, Mexican air companies, and by British Airways. The arrival of the British Airways plane at 6 in the evening is a city's classic.
Travelers to Sonora can connect to the Hermosillo airport through Mexican national and international connections. Puerto Peñasco has a new international airport however as of December 2008 flights have not begun, and only Aeromexico has announced flights which will conenct from Los Angeles. Nogales has an airport with conenctions to other Mexican cities.
If you are traveling to Chihuahua, you fly into Ciudad Juarez International Airport or to Chihuahua city airport. Both receive national flights operated by Aeromexico, Azteca and Aviacsa. Or you can fly into El Paso International Airport ten minutes away from the international border. The airport is serviced by major airlines and regional air carriers Southwest and Frontier. Mexican-owned Aerolitoral also flies into El Paso.
In eastern Northern Mexico, the traveler flies into Matamoros airport or to Brownsville International Airport just 5 minutes away from the border. Only serviced by Continental, international travelers should fly into Houston to make connections to Brownsville. Monterrey Mexico also has an international airport.
