Bequia is a pretty safe place to visit compared to other Caribbean islands.  Having said this, there are certain simple precautions that should be taken in order to ensure a smooth trip  - which apply more or less everywhere.  Like always, common sense is the most important tool to be used in staying safe.

Although petty theft and crime are not of major concern, they do occasionally affect visitors.  However, most of these situations can be easily avoided with common sense.  Avoid carrying around large amounts of money, or leaving large amounts of money or other vaulables unsecured in your accommodation, wearing expensive jewelry or generally looking or behaving flashy!

There are many beach activities available on the island, and you should not leave you common sense behind with your vaulables on the beach when you go exploring or swimming, it's asking for trouble. Women especially, should avoid being on lonely sections of beaches by themselves.  Always check for  life jackets when your go on a boat, and make sure that there is a VHFradio on baord as well.             Avoid walking alone at night (especially women).  Although this is a general recommendation for any unfamiliar area, it should be followed in Bequia as well.
