Charlestown is the capital of Nevis; it's a very picturesque and interesting small town which includes a lot of handsome 18th and 19th century Caribbean colonial architecture. It also has an attractive, modern, port area which serves the ferries arriving from, and departing to, Basseterre, St. Kitts, and so, for visitors to St. Kitts, a day trip to Charlestown, Nevis, is an easy, inexpensive and pleasant possibility.
Charlestown has three museums, a fruit and vegetable market (in the mornings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), a very beautiful and historic public library and courthouse, two good ice cream shops, and many other points of interest.
There is a taxi stand in the center of town, and you can ask any of the drivers to give you a guided tour of the island. The full tour includes lots of stops at picturesque places, and usually takes about 3 hours, but the tour can be shortened to fit any specific time allowance.
