Port Antonio is relatively compact and people can plan to spend a bulk of their time walking there if that mode of getting around is of interest to them.  The beaches of Port Antonio are beautiful and visitors will find that walking along them will pass the time pleasantly as they move from place to place along the edge of the city.  Travelers will also find that the heart of the city is best navigated on foot.  Visitors should know, however, that there are some minimal safety concerns ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g14... ) regarding walking through Port Antonio at night.  It is strongly recommended that travelers use taxis to get around at that time.

Taxis can also be used as a means of getting around longer distances throughout Port Antonio.  They are moderately priced, but visitors who wish to spend less money during their stay in the area can opt to take shared taxis in order to reduce costs.  These are shared with other passengers which gives tourists a chance to meet one another.

Public transportation is another internal travel option in Port Antonio; however the buses run somewhat sporadically and are less-than-established routes so this is not recommended for use as a primary method of getting around.
