Climate

Kingston's tropical climate fluctuates little throughout the year. Average temperatures vary by a few degrees from the lower 80s (27 C) in January and February, to the mid-80s in June through October. What does change dramatically is the amount of rainfall the city receives. This can vary from as much as seven inches of rain in October, to less than one inch of rain each in the months of January and February. Jamaicans will tell you that rains are brief and usually followed by sunshine, and that overcast days are rare.

Hurricanes

Jamaica is technically in the Caribbean hurricane belt, but sees very few actual hurricanes. In the last fifty years, the island has averaged about one hurricane per decade.

Peak Season and Off Season

One of the biggest factors in deciding when to go to Jamaica is that during the peak season hotels are booked months in advance, everything is more expensive, and the island is packed with tourists. Consider going in the off season, when resort rates drop thirty to fifty percent. The peak season is in the winter, from December 15 to April 14.
