Most people who visit Jamaica arrive by air. Jamaica has three international airports.

  • Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) serves Kingston.
  • Sangster International Airport (MBJ) serves Montego Bay.
  • Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ) serves Ocho Rios.

Most tourists arrive on the island via Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. For more information on the airlines serving Montego Bay see the following

http://www.mbjairport.com/internation...

There are no scheduled international flights to/from Ian Fleming International Airport on any airline. The airport is designed to handle private aircraft only.

Most people get to and from the airport and their resort in private transportation, small buses, or taxi cabs. Most people have transportation to and from the airport arranged before their trip (before arrival in Jamaica). Traffic is always busy especially on any route to and from the airport due to the fact that flights are arriving and departing all day, and people are being driven to their destinations.

If you are staying at a large resort, resort provided and/or will arrange transportation as an option. You can arrange for rental cars, mini-vans, domestic Jamaican charter flights, or taxis in the airport transportation hall after clearing customs.

A lovely benefit of some of the large resorts is an arrival lounge, often kept cool with air conditioning. It is a great relief after the hassle of customs and immigration to sit and relax a bit while the staff handles your luggage and arranges for your transportation to the resort. However, if you do not want to wait for other arriving passengers, private transportation is your best option. Usually, you are paying an additional $20 or more for round trip transportation depending on where your resort is located. You need to decide whether the price difference is worth the wait. Check with your travel agent, and make your decision, or contact one the companies listed below.

Note: Some transfer companies have desks in the transportation hall at the Montego Bay Airport. Transfer arrangements with these companies can be made on arrival in Jamaica. Taxi service is also available at the airport.

A tip for families coming through customs, try to catch an official who is managing the lines. They will usually direct a family with small children to a short line or one that is designated for returning Jamaicans. It can save you up to an hour in line and just shows again how much Jamaicans love children!
