While many Jamaicans are far from prudes when it comes to attire, nudity is actually illegal in public places on the island. While a law, it is generally not abided to or held to on the beach in Negril, as well as portions of the North shore of the island, by many tourists. Some Jamaicans find full or partial nudity offensive but accept it because of the financial benefit of tourism. You will see topless women all up and down the beach at almost all of the resort hotels in Negril. On the North shore of Jamaica you will see topless women mainly at resorts located away from city centers. The number of topless sunbathers varies between hotels and is based on each resorts clientele.

A number of resorts in Negril such as Grand Lido Negril, Couples Negril, Hedonism II, Point Village, etc. also have separate beaches or separated beach areas for au natural sunbathers and other areas for clothed (but topless allowed) sunbathers. The entire length of beach at Firefly used to be clothing optional; however, new owners have removed that activity. On the west end (the cliff area) of Negril some resorts have ledges for sunning (there are no beaches with sand in this area). The sunning areas are clothed (but topless allowed) or au natural (nude) based on who is using them at any given time. West end resorts with au natural sunning areas include resorts such as: Xtabi, Rock House Hotel, Banana Shout, and The Caves.

On the North shore of Jamaica, east of Montego Bay, resorts with au natural areas and other areas for clothed (but topless allowed) sunbathers include Couples Tower Isle, Gran Bahia Principe, Couples Sans Souci, Club Ambiance, etc. At Couples Tower Isle the au natural (nude) beach is located on a small island with a pool, bar, etc. located offshore from the resort and reached by short free shuttle boat rides from the hotel.

In the Montego Bay area au natural (nude) areas for sunning can be found at The Oasis at Sunset, part of Sunset Beach Resort, and on a small island which is part of Sandals Royal Caribbean resort. The Sandals island also offers a pool, bar, etc. and is reached by a short free shuttle boat ride from the hotel. Other areas at these two resort are topless and beaches at some, but not all, other Montego Bay area resorts see some topless use.

While some other Jamaican resorts permit topless, and in a smaller number of cases, nude sunning is to be done only in specified areas of the property and in most cases these options are used only by a small portion of the guests of a given resort.
