Roseau, as the capital of the Commonwealth of Dominica, is the center of major festivities and events for the island. Dominica and the Caribbean in general, are known for their colorful, unique, and amazing festivities. Carnival remains a world-wide favorite in this region and Dominica puts on what they claim to be, the most unique Carnival of all! Carnival in Dominica runs from December through Ash Wednesday and is a part of a wide variety of celebrations. Parades boast the traditional music, costumes, and festive spirit. More chances to enjoy the music come with the Calypso Monarch Music Competition. Professional bands also perform full calendar concert series. There is also a beauty pageant where the lovely ladies of Dominica compete to win the Queen Show. Carnival is a major time to visit Dominica and many come back again and again for their version of one of the best loved holidays ever to be created.

The World Creole Music Festival runs in late October and as its name suggests, is a major music event with all varieties of Creole music performed in a giant weekend concert series.
