Although Anguilla is famous for many things, shopping is not one of them. Having said this, opportunities to spend hard earned cash on local goods are available. In fact, because Anguilla is known for its absence of commercial tourism, the shopping scene on the island is unique with a local feel.
There are no shopping malls and only a few high-end designer-label vendors, but these types of outlets are available almost anywhere in the world, so don’t come here for this purpose. Anguilla does however offer flavorful beachwear shops, art galleries filled with amazing local works, and upscale fashion boutiques unlike anywhere else. There aren’t tons of options, but exploring the handful available can make for a great afternoon activity away from the beach.
If designer labels are of interest, head towards Meads Bay and check out their boutiques.
The area known as The Valley is the best bet for finding local arts and crafts. This area is filled with little shops selling great gifts, and art galleries displaying the best paintings and sculptures on the island.
Another option for the true shop-aholic is heading to the neighboring Island of St. Martin (only 20 minutes away). This island is a great place to purchase duty free goods and find upscale vendors. The shopping scene there is much more extensive.
