But bicycles symbolize the outdoors, and if there's one thing that unites Boulder residents and visitors alike, it's a love of the great outdoors. The fantastic climate, wide open spaces, scenic mountains and plethora of parks draw outdoor enthusiasts from miles around to this beautiful town at the foothills of the Flatiron Mountains. Some of the best rock climbing in the world is available; the skiing is world class and hikers gravitate to the area's more than 200 trails, many in Chautauqua Park. Like most college towns, the atmosphere here is hip, laid-back and artsy. A lively cultural scene includes several prominent museums as well as the Fiske Planetarium.
