Visiting Goreme, Turkey

Known by several names (like Korama and Maccan) through the ages, Goreme is one of Cappadocia's few cities where the characteristic fairy chimney rock formations have been continually inhabited for centuries. The most popular attraction by far is the fascinating Open Air Museum, with its ancient painted cave churches and its history as one of Christianity's earliest education centers. Other early churches in Goreme include the 6th-century Durmus Kadir. The city is very popular with backpackers.
