Visiting Funafuti, Tuvalu

Encompassing an atoll of 33 islets, Funafuti is a tiny and laid back capital, dotted with traditional thatched roof buildings alongside the occasional concrete structure. Its 11-mile turquoise lagoon beckons snorkelers and scuba divers to experience the vibrant life under the surface, as well as two WWII wrecks emerging from the water. Back on land, the atoll boasts the gorgeous Church of Tuvalu, a Marine Conservation Area and local goods at the popular Women's Handicraft Centre.
