Ornate Gothic and Baroque architecture and dozens of festivals draw visitors to this pretty, southern German city. Situated in a steep river bend, towers rise from well-preserved old city walls, on which a walkway runs. Rothenburg’s two main market streets are crammed with picture-perfect houses, cafés and restaurants. Lovely sights, among dozens dating back to the 1400s, include the timbered gables of Old Forge, the flying buttresses of the Horse Mill and the café in the Master Builder’s House.
