| The Yukon capital since 1953, Whitehorse has struck it lucky several times. Despite the perilous rapids from which it takes its name, Whitehorse was established as the riverboat hub for 1897’s Klondike Gold Rush. Its next lucky strike came when the railway arrived in 1902. It hit gold again when the U.S. Army brought the Alaska Highway to town in the 1940s. Home to the vast majority of the Yukon’s population, Whitehorse offers a slew of festivals, hot springs, museums and great dog sledding. |
