this was our 2nd visit to the old village complex and it was as good as the first, we booked on line this time and all went extremely well, the apartment was roomy and the service at reception more than helpful, the only downside was our visit to 'Aqua Show' the place is filthy although the rides are quite good.

We went with Airtours, we went from Liverpool John Lennon Airport 12/19th August 2004, no delay. We arrived at Faro, taken by mini bus to the Old Village. Our appartment was not quite ready we waited about half an hour, we were taken round when it was ready, we were amazed, large living area ground floor, kitchen with everything you could want, 1st floor 3 bedrooms, 1 with en suite and a roof terrace, with 6 sun beds, washing lines and a clothes airer. The Old Village complex is very peaceful and clean. There are various bars and restaurants with various price ranges, supermarket, off licence, you can order Indian or Chinese take aways from Bar Nartica.
The pool area, with plenty of sun beds at NO EXTRA CHARGE, you could also get snacks here, they also have a barbie on Friday nights.
We has already booked Zoomarine for our two to "Ineract with the Dolphins", we booked the transport and entrance charge with the lady next to reception, she was very helpful, infact we booked several days out with her, the Zebra Safari is well worth a day out, you get very dusty, the lunch is good, with a few glasses of wine, Aqualand is another good day.
We didn't find eating out expensive, we allowed 30 Euros each for our evening meal, which was plenty, that included wine and drinks, all the food was excellent and plenty of it.
All in all an excellent holiday, I for one would go back to the Old Village. P.S. There is also a Market at Quarteria on a Wednesday, you will find it we did, just keep walking along the front, turn left by the white pointed changing huts, the market is on the hill.

We have just returned from a holiday to the Old Village apartments in Vilamoura and we had a thoroughly good time. Our apartment was overlooking the central square which was a bit noisy a night with the hubbub of people but it didn't detract from our holiday, in fact it added to our holiday because there was always something going on especially if you are a people watcher. There were plenty of cafe/bars and restaurants on the complex. The Roma Inn - a small Italian restaurant - was excellent. It didn't have a huge variety on the menu but the food was always freshly prepared and beautifully cooked, the people were very friendly and helpful. The 20 minute walk to Vilamoura marina was well worth it. Although it was very hot there was a lovely welcome breeze. We travelled with Thomas Cook and their rep was excellent as was Gilda the reception lady who looked after us. For a thoroughly relaxing holiday with no hassle then this is the place to be. We will certainly be returning in the future.

I went to Portugal with an open mind. I had never been there before and I was certainly pleasantly surprised. The Old Village apartments are set slightly higher uphill than the marina, however it is a very easy stroll to the beach, which takes about 15-20 minutes, and is a nice walk. If you prefer not to walk, a taxi to the marina is only 5 Euros each way or there is the scenic train which leaves every hour, that is only 2,50 Euros each. I recommend the train ride as you get to see a little more of Vilamoura. The apartments are very pretty and the whole village is covered in bright flowers. Our apartment was quite small yet cosy for a couple staying for two weeks. It was also clean and all in working order which is always important! The food was very nice too, ranging from Chinese at the marina to Portuguese, Italien and Burgers.
There is something for everyone. The swimming pools at the village are great however be warned that the loungers are privately owned and cost 2,50 each for the morning session and the same for the afternoon! The highlight of the holiday for me was the peace and tranquility, and of course the gorgeous sunsets over the marina. I will definitely be returning and would recommend it to anyone, families and couples.
