“A fairy tale castle.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Absolutely stunning moated castle set in the middle of a forest yet only 10 minutes from the main road along the river Rhine. Yesterday was open day for the winery so we were able to try a large selection of the estate wines, and very much improved they are too. We had a delicious German style pizza flatbread topped with cheese, onions and bacon which suited the very fresh white wines. It's worth touring the castle with many centuries old features, the grounds are very well cared for and it's such a beautifully quiet and relaxing location we could have stayed there all day.

“Exception value in wines, Steinberg is an excellent tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

I would HIGHLY recommend the Steinberg Cellar tour. The only catch is that I think its only regularly run in German so you’ll need either passable German or to contact them and arrange an English or other language tour. I know they do this but possibly only at certain times and/or with larger groups. This having been said the tasting was great, the tour offered an interesting account of the history of the Kloster and also insights into a highly modernized process and facility, especially for such an old establishment. The underground modern facility was quite unique, especially for the region. The walled Steinberg vineyard is also an interesting place to walk about. Please note it is located a short distance towards Hattenheim from the Monastery church complex .

The Kloster restaurant was also worth stopping for. Warm cozy atmosphere, excellent food, attentive service and a good value overall. The wine Studio is quite large and has lots of interesting souvenirs to purchase. If you didn’t get a change at a tour it’s a great opportunity to taste and buy wines from their large collection as well. Wines are exceptionally priced given their quality. I regret not buying more from here and less elsewhere in hindsight after a number of tours. Next time I’m in the region, I’ll stop here again.

“Beautiful and historic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

The setting in a small valley is lovely. I have been here several times over the years, with 10 years in between my last two visits. The facilities continue to improve and the gift shop/wine tasting room is particularly nice. The grounds are beautiful and make for a nice tour. The interiors are interesting and reflect the generations of use. It is free to walk the grounds, but to go inside the buildings (except the shop) requires admission. It is crowded on weekends, but generally parking is still available.

“Sleep over catastrophy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012 via mobile

My husband, myself and friends of ours stayed at Kloster Eberbach overnight on a weekend two weeks ago.

We was looking forward this weekend but were extremely dissappointed about the standard of the hotel rooms (very basic for 140 EUR) and the way we have been treated during our stay.

In the evening we enjoyed our dinnet at their restaurant but had some problems with the quality of the food which was served. At 10 pm we were the only restaurant guest left. All other hotel guest at Kloster Eberbach turned out to be weddings guest. There were two weddings on site during that weekend and we were the only other guest not belonging to these weddings.

When we asked to sit in the restaurant after 10pm the personal told us that this was not possible since they planned to close it. We asked where we could sit to enjoy a glas of wine. We got the information that they have no other place than the receptionist area at another annex. When we sat there for 10 min another waitress came and asked us to leave the building since the bride of the wedding was complaining over external guests sitting in the reception area. After some discussion and a very impolite treatment of this waitress we had to spend the rest of night outside of the building on a park bank! This is unbelievable and unacceptable!

I cannot recommand that place to sleep over, especially not during the weekend since they appear to have many weddings where there is no focus or service for other guests.
