“Good hotel in excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Right in the center of Rottweil, a lovely hotel which actually seems to be between trees, right by the classic bridge. The rooms were good, very spacious. Smalll negative point was the little plastic bags of shampoo and shower gel. One bag per room makes showering twice impossible. The widely adapted system (in german) of larger bottles hanging upside down would've been better.

Dinner and breakfast were quite good.

Another small tip: open up the bar before 18:00. We were there on business and our appointment was finished early. We wanted a beer at 17:30 but this was refused.

What a stunningly beautiful hotel. This was a very special trip to Rottweil for my daughter and me. Prior to our trip, I had emailed the hotel requesting a room with a beautiful view. We were given room # 5. Everything about our room was exceptional. The view was absolutely breathtaking & even from the bathroom windows. The craftsmanship in our room, bathroom, and hotel in general is truly lovely & made it so very serene. We were amazed each morning by the incredible assortment of items to choose from for the breakfast buffet, & the service equaled a fine dining experience. This was all included in the price of the room! The staff was so friendly, and the Gentleman behind the desk was very helpful and patient with our questions and lack of being able to speak German.
I could go on and on with praises. There is not one thing I would change about our experience, and I can't wait to return one day. Thank you Ringhotel Johanniterbad.

This has always been our favorite hotel in Rottweil, mainly because of its great location, its excellent restaurant with delicious regional cuisine, and because it had a lovely old-world personality… but wow, were we in for a surprise when we arrived here for our recent stay! The hotel has undergone major remodeling and as a result it has now been transformed from a traditional small-town hotel into a sophisticated boutique hotel, with a new, cutting-edge design that is truly spectacular. But best of all, despite all the changes, the hotel has managed to hold on to its charm, warmth and character, with the result that we now love this hotel even more. It is obvious that a lot of money was spent on this transformation, and the result is truly spectacular, so congratulations to the Johanniterbad Hotel team – what a fantastic job! We already look forward to our next stay at your hotel…

We checked in this hotel which is about an hour away from Stuttgart. It was a pleasant surprise I have to say. Our room was very large and even had the bonus of having a little balcony with 2 chairs. The room looks like something straight out of an Ikea catalogue. It is however, a modern, practical and comfortable space.

I loved the fact that the bathroom wall was not a wall but frosted glass instead. It means that the room was flooded with natural light. We also appreciated the exterior electric blinds, which offered a bit of privacy while in the bathroom.

As mentioned, the space was practical and while not luxurious, the space was well thought out.
Breakfast was good as there was a good selection of items on the menu. The hot food is quite limited though. (boiled eggs, "scrambled" eggs and some bacon). I was disappointed not to see any sausages for breakfast! But overall good.
Reception was ok...not the most friendliest welcome but nobody was rude either.

I would definitely stay there again. Rottweil is a lovely town with so much character.

The hotel is well located for access to the town centre and the room large, bright and well appointed. The spacious bathroom has frosted glass walls which means that nocturnal useage illuminates the room. The breakfast buffet offers an extensive choice but includes miniature rolls and croissants. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant menu appeared to be rather expensive for comparative meals elsewhere so we didn't use it but found good restaurants close by.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2009

We spent two nights here in early December 2009. We had a large double bed room with a large bath (with tub + shower) and balcony. Our room had a fair size table, and ample storage available. The hotel offered a pretty good breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, sliced cheeses and meats, bread, yogurt, fruit coffee and juices. Restaurant service was very good. The hotel is situated in the old part of town overlooking a small valley. The hotel is only a few minutes by foot from the center of town. The city is old. And intact. We went here to visit a relatively untouristed well preserved middle aged town. A good restaurant in town is Zum Mohren, where authentic Swabisch food can be had at reasonable prices. The hotel has a very nice restaurant of their own. In the evenings we noticed that the restaurant was somewhat busy from local diners. We ordered room service one night, which was quickly delivered to our room at a reasonable proce. If I ever visit Rottweil again I will certainly stay at this hotel. The staff was multilingual and friendly. Rottweil is about 1 hour and 30 minutes south of Stuttgart by train. In the summer Rottweil is frequented by bicycle tours of trekking through the Black Forest and Bodensee (Lake Constance) areas.

I have now stayed at this wonderful establishment twice, and will definitely return.

My beautifully furnished room was virtually a suite. It had a small sitting area with a sofa and table, next to the balcony looking out into the hills, separated from the entrance and closet area by a large built in table. The bed is on the opposite side. Overall, the spacious room was at least 500 square feet, with an excellent bath.

The unique location is on the edge of the river gorge, which is also a park you can walk down to. It is behind the church, a few minutes walk, along quiet, narrow medieval streets, to the heart of the old town. The hotel is about a 15 uphill walk from the train station, but there are numerous buses.

The buffet breakfast, which is included, is a gourmet treat in a beautiful dining room. There is a medieval garden in the back, which is also a restaurant (didn't try it, though).

The Bartel family, who run it, are friendly and helpful. Check-in was a breeze, and they have a unique electronic room key.
Ask for a room in the wing overlooking the park and garden.

Rottweil is a beautiful medieval city, and you can take long walks into the surrounding hills and forests. I found the hikes here more scenic than in the black forest.

  • Liked — Spacious, stylish, quiet, room with balcony and view, great location, reasonable price.
  • Disliked — Nothing!
