“Great starry nights, Beautiful Beaches,Monkeys and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2011

My Sisters and some friends invited me to a retreat this past January that they were having in Panama. The trip took us through the jungles of the western province of Chiriqui in Panama to the pacific bay Resort which was located in the Gulf of Chiriqui. Well I have never seen such breathtaking views from our cottage and especially from the restaurant. The beaches were excellent and we found several sand dollars on south beach. We a;so had great view of hummingbirds, butterflies and monkeys. i loved the monkeys. on the Island there are Capuchin and Howler monkeys. we also got a visit from a deer and several iguanas and a couple of hawks. The resort also is close to many islands to explore and Frank the owner took us to one. You are able to do many activities like snorkeling and kayaking and star gazing for at night we were blessed with billions of stars. it can be quite romantic for a couple on their Honeymoon or celebrating their anniversary or Valentine's day as there are secluded areas where one can relax without the noise and distraction of more commercialized resorts. It really is a great getaway for family and friends or couples or even someone who is traveling alone and needs a little retreat from the modern world.it really can be said that this is a piece of paradise.

Room Tip: The best views are from The Veraguas and Chiriqui cottages. You get good ocean views and great sea B...

I had heard about pacific bay from friends. I signed up for the yoga retreat this january and was pleasantly surprised. We did yoga twice a day (at the beach in the am and at other places in the afternoon). The room was so cute. It's amazing to be able to flush a toilet in the jungle! The beds are comfortable and the views are magnificent. I love the eco, solar powered mission of the place. The food & staff are so good & kind. I can't believe what a gorgeous place Frank (the owner) has created here. Truly a man with a vision (and alot of great stories).

The pictures do not do this place justice. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised and maybe even, awe-struck. Pacific Bay resort is for sure, the way life should be.

I hate to recommend this place to anyone else as we have found this little slice of paradise and had it all to ourselves for 3 days! I wouldn't want the word to get out too much...J/K Uncle Frank...This place is absolute paradise for nature lovers and anyone looking for a bit of solitude.
Don't go here if you have to see someone else on the beach with you or don't want to have alone time with your partner.
3 Private beaches lined with palm trees and a hammock in a cove-something out of the Blue Lagoon. Turtles, monkeys and Iguanas all over...
Frank the owner is a wonderful man who will bend your ear and tell you stories for hours along with a little advice on life! we ended up adopting him as our long lost Uncle and will definitely go back to his place in the future. He will whip you up some no kidding gourmet meals (all inclusive) and make you feel at home.
The rooms are perfect, views overlooking the ocean, comfortable beds and a nice hot shower, what else do you need? You won' t be spending much time indoors here anyway! lots of exploring and relaxing on the pristine beaches.
The only complaint we had were the slippery steep hills to climb. He usually has golf carts to roam around in but not during our stay. We are very fit and didn't have a problem with the incline of the hills but they are very slippery when going down so be careful!

All in all-This is the best hidden secret in Panama-bar none!

We stayed 2 nights here last month, and we just loved, loved, loved this place!! We were pleasantly surprised with the fact that they only take 10 guests at one time. There are so much to do in the property. There are a few different beaches to hang out, and also can hike in the woods as well. There are many different birds as well as monkeys. The restaurant is on top of the hill, with a great view of the ocean. The price includes three great meals a day. At night, there are only a few lights that we can see from our cabin, that's how remote this location is!

The cabins are scattered throughout the hilly areas overlooking the ocean. It was basic, but cozy. Had a ceiling fan and a clean bathroom. It has screen windows. Some may say this is "rustic" but it was comfortable enough for us. One thing I like to say about the cabin though... I wish there was a mosquito net over the bed. I was so careful with mosquito spray all day, but I got bitten by those small bugs when I was in bed after taken shower. If you have a tendency to getting bitten a lot, then, be sure to spray yourself 24hours.

Be sure to take an optional boat tour to Islas Secas if you are into snorkeling. We had a great time over there. Can't beat an experience of having a picnic lunch in a white sand beach in a deserted island after swimming and seeing variety of fish underwater.

The staff were very nice and customer service was great. They always make sure we are having a great time. Especially the owner Frank... he is one of the nicest people that you ever meet in your life. He genuinely enjoys meeting people and sharing his love of nature. He also has many great stories to share and we really enjoyed his company during our stay.

We stayed at Pacific Bay resort in Feb 2010 and had a wonderful time. The staff was nice, especially Frank, who has a strong respect for nature. The location is breathtaking. There are several beaches to choose from each with it's own particular flair.
Since the resort is remote (you need a water taxi to get there), the price includes all meals (excluding drinks). The food was very good. Frank makes sure that the menu doesn't disappoint. And we never had rice, which was great because you usually can't escape rice during lunch and diner in Panama. The home made raviolis were delicious!
Since the place basically runs off solar energy, there is no air conditioning in the rooms, only fans. This was not too much of a problem for me and is what I would expect from an eco-friendly resort. Our room was going through some minor repair on the ceiling, but this didn't bother us. If you enjoy reading at night, I recommend you bring your own portable reading light, since there were no reading lamps next to the bed.
What I liked the most was the beaches, animals, and the sunsets. What I liked least was the lack of lighting next to my bed; a minor detail.

From our arrival in a thunderstorm to being the only people on the beach to watching sea turtles and sunsets we were completely enchanted. It took some effort to find our way from Cerro Punta via buses and taxi to the boat dock. When we called for reservations, there was no one that spoke English. Based on my intermediate Spanish skills over a static-filled phone line we determined that a "big yellow boat" would meet us around 3:00 PM at the dock at Boca Chica. Folks at the dock didn't seem to know Pacific Bay Resort and all wanted to give us a ride to Boca Brava just across the sound. Be patient - the boat does come! The cottages were clean and spacious. Private with great views - though they are duplexes so you will meet the neighbors if there are any. The trails are amazing - howler monkeys in the trees, lots of birds. The food was gourmet all the way - but at times maybe a bit heavy for hot, humid, august at the beach. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beaches were fabulous. It is hard to do this place justice with a description. Bring enough cash for rooms and the boat ride as they didn't take credit cards. Highly recommended!

We stayed at Pacific Bay Resort for two nights in January 2009. Pacific Bay Resort is one of the most beautiful settings we found in all of Panama. Located on a large swath of tropical forest approximately 20 minutes (by boat) from Boca Chica, PBR is extremely private and remote. The duplexes are a bit rustic, but spacious and featuring stellar views. The resort's restaurant sits at the top of the hill with spectacular ocean panoramas. They serve simple but tasty food that is included in the room rate. The resort has three beaches, and we spent most of our time at the gorgeous south beach, where you can swim in the bathwater-warm cove and watch howler monkeys play in the trees. While there we also saw iguanas, deer and lots of hermit crabs. Just a couple minor words of warning: 1) The bungalows are widely spaced and on pretty steep hills, so be prepared to do some hiking (though sometimes you can arrange for the staff to pick you up with golf carts); and 2) They don't accept credit card payments, so make sure you bring cash to pay your bill.
