My hubby and I stayed here for a couple nights. Was a deal through WagJag I believe. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The room we had booked did not have a balcony, was actually above the "lodge" area. We were able to change rooms to one of the cottages with a balcony. The room was very nice, fully equipped kitchen. Needless to say we had to drive to the grocery store to pick up some groceries, which was no big deal. We had a gift certificate for the restaurant on site - Fredericks. Reviews were good, but for us we would never eat there again. We ordered the bison steak - I've had bison before - dinner was not up to our expectations or the reviews. Dinner was cold, potatoes seemed like they were boiled then put in the oven to warm up - although they were suppose to be roast potatoes. The price was beyond what it was worth. Coffee or tea in the morning was very expensive - $2.50 for a cup!! If you stayed in the lodge it was free. Bit of nickel and diming it seemed. We rented the pontoon boat and did our on excursion around the lake. Very very beautiful!!!!
Would we go here again? No. Would we recommend to families - absolutely! Was not our cup of tea. All in all for a 2 night stay with an online deal, it still cost us $600 !!!!!

Room Tip: either the single cottages or the duplex cottages

We rented the Lakeview cottage for 3 nights recently and had a a great time as long as your not your expecting luxury rather a true rustic cottage experience. Having a huge patio where outside we ate most our meals really was a time I will always remember. We paid extra $50 to get the BBQ rental and we cooked every night on the grill and brought our own food for simple breakfasts and lunches. We did not eat the main restaurant and see no reason to spend money as making your own food is part of the a cottage experience. The only downside of resort is that they have a limited selection better cleaning supplies (I went and paid $5 to get a proper brush to clean the dishes as the one they has was disgusting) and utensils in the kitchen along with the sports equipment like the basketball, tennis balls have seen better days, better to bring your own.

We are a couple in our mid-forties and normally rent a cottage and/or visit with friends who own a cottage and decided to try a cottage type resort for the first time, wasnt sure what to expect and happy to report Beachwood is doing it right!

We booked last minute, one room left, and Dave took my reservation over the phone. 2 night package with breakfast and dinner included (we could opt out of meals if we wanted to). We ended up in the "The Cabin" which is right behind the main inn with a view of the lake. It had a mini kitchenette with microwave, sink, fridge, coffee maker (had to bring our own coffee/milk), a few dishes/glasses. The cabin had an extra room with bunkbeds which we did not need. There is a TV and the bed and couch and kitchen were all in the same open concept area. The bathroom was a good size with deep tub, shampoo/soaps were provided as well. The room seems to have been recently renovated and was very nice and clean, the bed was so comfy and sublime to sleep on! It did seem like a bit of a fishbowl as the windows are all around with several other accommodations surrounding it, but it is quiet.

The restaurant "Frederick's" is amazing! We are serious foodies and were not disappointed! For our package we were allowed the buffet style appetizer bar or could select off the menu at an additional price. Both nights we chose the buffet with a selection of salads, soup of the day and breads. All were delicious. You could choose your main off the menu or one of the daily specials, we had the bison burger, beef shortribs, prime rib and pork chop ... all was simply delicious with choice of side (mashed or roasted potatoes or pea risotto) and seasonal veggies which were so fresh and cooked and seasoned to perfection! We are not dessert eaters but had to indulge in a "small" portion, as we requested, just for a taste. Bumbleberry and black forest pie were divine! You could purchase wine/cocktails as an add-on but we brought wine to enjoy in our room and afterward by the waterfront so we didnt partake, but the selection was very good. There were several other nearby cottagers that appeared to be dining there, this is a sign that others really enjoy it too! The staff are all very accommodating and Caitlin, our server, for both evenings was a gem! Breakfast was served from 8:30-9:30/10am and included your regular fare, buffet style, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, french toast, muffins, coffee, tea, orange/apple juice. I should mention that during dinner there is a little buffet set up for kids (chicken/fish fingers, fries, etc.) which is a nice touch. We booked our dinner reservations for 7:30, to avoid all the families and got a nice table by the window with a great view of beautiful Buckhorn Lake.

The clientele while we visited were mostly families, a lot of kids, to be honest, but they really didnt bother us. One side was a hub of activity and other was a little more quiet, which is where we hung out for most of the days. The activities available are great! Beside the lake for swimming, we did manage to act like kids and bounce on the giant water trampoline, also included in the package is one water-ski or tubing outing per day. We went tubing one day and Dave the manager, managed to get us on first, before the onslaught of kids took over, which was very nice of him and we had a blast! Clayton who seemed to be in charge of the waterfront activities was very friendly and knew his stuff! We also played tennis, horseshoes, kayaked, paddle-boated, swam in the heated pool and went for a long walk through the gorgeous grounds and surrounding roads. There is an abundance of act ivies to keep you busy, whatever you choose! After dinner, we built a bonfire, there were several pits (and wood) included and shared one with a family for the first while until they retired for the night. We roasted marshmallows and played guitar.

The day we checked out we didnt really want to leave, so we rented a tin boat from the resort ($65.00 for 4 hours). Again Clayton was our guy to set us up. We packed a picnic lunch and tooled around Buckhorn, checking out the waterway locks and little islands, this was a great way to spend the day on the water. They have other sized boats available for rent as well.

All in all, it is a great place, Dave was super charming and personable, we got the history on the resort and felt like part of the family. They run a very good ship with the whole Morgan entourage, even the younger kids, pitching in where ever they can.

We would definitely consider heading up to Beachwood Resort again and highly recommend!

After extensive search for the perfect 4 day 3 night all inclusive holiday getaway, we found Beachwood Resort and WOW did we ever luck out! As a Muslim family of 4, it was important for us to find a place that could accommodate our dietary needs, offer ample activities that could keep our two sons age 11 and 16 busy, and at the same time give us both parents the opportunity to cash in on some much deserved R&R. To make a long story short, this place exceeded our expectations and we have nothing but good things to say about the kings and queens of hospitality Krista, Joanne, Clayton, Kate, Becky and the rest of the Morgan family. The food was absolutely out of this world, five star dining at its best and two thumbs up for both Chef Eric and Chef Michael who literally went out of their way to source halal meats and poultry for our visit. The dining room service and 5 course meal par excellence. On our first night, sirloin steak done perfect just the way we like. Moist and juicy chicken pesto on our second night and the best fish and chips anywhere on this planet on our last night. We made some special friends, lasting memories and had one of the best times of our lives in a short span of time. We intend to come here every year and highly recommend anyone thinking about an all inclusive getaway to consider Beachwood Resort because there simply isn't anything out there comparable to this.

Four of us enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay at Beachwood, and were thoroughly impressed with the fine food we experienced at Frederick's. A table by the window ensured a tranquil view while we dined on superb food- warm herb bread, fresh salads, and a delicious sweet potato and coconut soup got the meal off to a promising start. The rack of lamb in a blueberry balsamic reduction was perfection itself, and served with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and perfectly steamed red peppers, bok choy, carrots and asparagus, all garnished with slivered carrots, beets and pea sprouts. A mint pesto complemented the lamb beautifully. Wine poached sea bass, a chicken and mushroom dish and braised beef ribs were savoured by my table mates. Everyone rated their choice a 10!
We were truly impressed by the freshness of the vegetables, both those used in the salads and served with the mains. Crisp, colourful, flavourful. Perfect.
The homemade desserts were excellent (we couldn't resist trying a bite of each other's), and I would highly recommend trying the chai creme brulee. Amazing.
We found the service to be unhurried, attentive and ... fun!
All in all, a wonderful experience, and one we are bound to repeat!

I stayed here for 2 nights for my niece's wedding June 15th. It was a great place for this - much better than the usual in-town hotel wedding, in a setting that encourages being outside in nature, right on the lake. The wedding took place outside, lakeside. The staff are great and friendly (it was the start of the season, and some young ones were being trained by the manager, which was fun to be there for). They put on a hot dogs and burgers BBQ for us on Friday night.
I had a room in the main building (room 5) which was a bit small, even for a solo guest, but the other buildings had good-sized accommodations, with kitchen and sitting areas, like a small apt. One thing to remember - this is a resort, not a hotel chain, so bring soap and shampoo. Also, it is in cottage country, so bring Deet spray for the time around dusk.
I would recommend this place especially for weddings and family reunions. It is a great place for a large group to get together in an informal setting. Lots of space to get together.

We dined at Frederick's at Beachwood Resort last night - absolutely superb!!! Great new chef Michael - great new menu. The Duck Confit with Kawartha Winery's Black Currant Wine
Reduction was an incredibly delicious appetizer - also, we sampled their grilled Lamb chop appetizer with Kawartha's Elderberry Wine Jelly reduction and Chef Michael's secret RB sauce. This appetizer had us cleaning the platter with bits of bread. The BBQ ribs with Kawartha Rasz B Que Sauce were the best ribs we have ever tasted in Peterborough County - the Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse Cake were absolutely heavenly. All courses were masterfully prepared by Chef Michael and paired brilliantly with perfectly matched wines from Kawartha Country Wines Award-winning vintner John Rufa. This was a truly incredible dining experience and highly recommended to everyone. We have been dining here for years and never been disappointed! We recommend Frederick's at Beachwood as well as Kawartha Country Wines to our B&B guests. Both are a must visit!

Thank you for your wonderful comments. Chef Michael had a lot of fun that night using Kawartha Winery products to create some pretty incredible sauces for your dining experience. We are proud supporters of local businesses and farmers by using product grown or produced locally in our restaurant and offering them for sale in our gift shop. We look forward to seeing you again .
