“Mountainous paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

The beauty of simplicity and friendly hospitality. You feel that you are home being at the same time in a house of dreams of a mountainous paradise.
Divine breakfast, unique view and breathtaking landscape... Ask Georges where to eat...

We reserved this hotel for 3 nights and afterwards we would see what we would do...but after either half an hour, we knew that we would not leave and stay here for the whole week, and luckily we did !
How can people create such a nice atmosphere, such a welcoming, such a feeling of "being at home", such a feeling of "we have known each other for years" ...??? Bravo to Georgios, Pappou, Bert (hihi) and his family, you are really perfect hosts !
All the rest is WAWW, the views are indescribable, the silence and peace around the hotel, the walks are adventerous, the village of Megalou Papingo itself was the nicest of all, food in the suggested restaurants was quality food (follow Georgios his recommendations and you will never be dissapointed).

Spotless, beautiful rooms and amazing suites, with stunning view of the Gorge due to the hotel's prime location in papigo.
However, most noteworthy is Yurgus, the property owner and manager who makes this hotel the gem that it is. He is very service oriented, and offers assistance and advice in anything from another towel to recommendation on restaurants, treks and routes.

Room Tip: Room no. 5 is very beautiful. Rooms have no kitchenette but suites do. If travelling with children...

Stayed there for a couple of nights in October 2012 after peeking the hotel at random after a quick search on the Internet.

I was overwhelmed first by the beauty of the site, then by the charm and comfort of the hotel, and finally by the friendliness and sympathy of Giorgos, the owner/manager.

Last but not least the excellent, healthy and copious breakfast kept me running for the whole duration of my 6.5 hours hike withing the Vikos Gorges.

We chose Papaevangelou hotel this summer on the base of Tripadvisor comments that usually give a realistic picture about the place in advance. But this was a surprise – it was much more than the comments could ever describe and I fear this one will probably fail too. On the top of Megalo Papingo village, close to the forest, stands this property with its simple and elegant beauty and authentic look. We've got a spacious studio in the garden – traditional dark stone and wood softened with stylish little details. Sitting with a glass of wine or excelent domestic brandy (that awaits for you in your room) on the patio in front of the studio and watching mountain peaks and blue sky above them was such a delight after long walks. And all those stars in pitch black nights! But this is not the reason for writting this comment. There is somethnig quite exceptional about this place, besides it's beauty – it's the atmosphere created by the cheerful and lighthearted but discreet family that owns it. Somehow you end up feeling at ease, relaxed, enlightened, just as you would while staying at a good friend's place. What a contrast with dramatic Vikos scenery. There are other "little things" we have to mention – cleaning is done with great care every day, breakfast is very tasty and imaginative with all that cheese, salads, homemade marmelades, cakes, fruits ... There is a big place in the front to park your car, this was very important to us. And there is always a big smile for every guest.
Well, there is one flaw after all – when we continued our journey in Greece, other accomodations were unpleasant shock in spite there was nothing wrong with them and people were nice too. So, when you leave Papaevangelou, you have to prepare yourself for the "real world" outside this magic spot.

On April 2012 we came with additional three couples for three nights in Papaevangelou Hotel.
This was our second visit in this hotel, but definitely not the last one…
The location is great – very quite old village – much options for sightseeing – nature – rivers , canyons and nice villages.
Much options for dinning – very good restaurants in Papingo and in the area. The hotel itself located in a very nice place while a very nice view can be seen from every room's windo0w.
The rooms are very nice and well equipped. Each room with its special design and style. Very good breakfast is serves in a very nice dinning room.
On top of all is the warm hospitality of the owner Giorgios. He is very warm person who is attentive to guest's request's needs.
We'll defiantly come again.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice

This is one of the best places we have ever stayed. We did not want to leave.
We stayed in one of the studios which was fantastic. You have your own little kitchen so you can prepare your own lunch or late afternoon snacks and wine and there is a wonderful private terrace to sit out and enjoy them on. The view is stunning, the breakfasts amazing...huge and simply delicious. The owner, Joorgas (George) is a wonderful host. He will help you plan your days around the area and he will do all he can to help you have a wonderful stay. He even did some laundry for us and didn't even charge us. The location is only a 5 minute walk from town and Joorgas knows all the best spots for dinner. This place really lives up to it's 'excellent' rating on tripadvisor.

Room Tip: Stay in Studio 1 if you can, it's lovely and private with great views and a private terrace.
