“Appaling Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

We were hugely disappointed with the experience. The establishment professes to be four star when in many respects it barely merited two.

Its actually a good looking place with a big pool and a quiet location by the sea. The big bathrooms and balconies were nice. It was in the service that everything fell down.

The towels in the toilet were old and cheap
We were almost out of toilet paper and when they provided more when we asked they just set it up on the dispenser instead of putting it in
The tiny refrigerator was almost useless and not plugged in
The TV, also not plugged in, was tiny and old too. They forgot to give us the remote. When we did go to get it, we found that we could get one channel. When we mentioned it, they're reply was `well, I guess it just doesn't work then.'
They left us to take our bags up to the room

The hotel has only a small pool bar that was usually unattended as its sole service besides the very limited breakfast that we had to pay extra for.

The associated restaurant, which seemed to be staffed by the same people as the hotel was where we really had a problem. The staff left the TV blaring when the guests were there without asking whether we wanted it on or not. Then, before we were finished, the entire staff, all of them, sat down for their own meal and I had to go over to them to ask if we could order dessert. Cultural differences aside, I thought that was beyond the pale.

We stayed here early May 2012. The weather was good and the pool was filled, but not heated, so was OK for swimming but not lounging around in. The room was clean and reasonably furnished. The breakfasts were nothing special. We ate in the adjacent restaurant and found the food good and the cost reasonable.

Beautiful location, right on the coast. Rooms clean and comfortable, with a fantastic view of the sea, coast and some of the Lipari islands. Nice, clean swimming pool. Virtually no possibility to swim in the sea, because of boulders and waves. Certainly no beach, despite the name "playa blanca". The only disppointment for us were the staff at breakfast, who do not even bother to say 'buon giorno', unlike all other places we visited in Sicily. Breakfast itself is rather meager. Despite the railway behind the hotel, we never missed sleep, because trains are rare at night. The town of Santo Stefano is nearby and nice, and also with great views. Most hotel guests were Italians, which we liked.

Room Tip: Rooms close to the sea

Nice Pool. Large but tired room. Very Poor breakfast.
€10 for 24hrs WiFi is not acceptable in 2011
La Playa Blanca does not mean it has a white beach - its just boulders.

Restaurant alongside is a pleasing location (no others for several Km). Service a little armature. eg White wine was taken from a shelf and tossed into the freezer for a quick chill down from an ambient 27C.

I am so suprised reading other reviews. I have travelled ard the world and was staying in best hotels b/c of my job, like Hilton, and Sheraton an I really do like this small coisy hotel.
It is run by Italian-Polish married couple. It is just next to the sea, views from the rooms with balcony are absolutely amaizing. Rooms are soo clean and neat and nicely decorated. Train stattion is 4 minutes walk from the hotel, santo stefano is a beautiful small italian town. This place is for familiies and couples who do not need much entertainment but just relax and peace. We also travelled ard the island and I have to say that the trattoria that is just next to the hotel is one of the best on the whole island with very nice manager. I am not sure what people expect from 3 star hotel, but for talking just for myself and my partner our expectations were exceeded. I strongly recommend this place.

This was the absolute worst hotel that I have ever been to. The conditions were extremely unsanitary. The maid never changed the sheets on our bed, there was mold and mildew on the walls, ceiling and in the shower. The wc near the pool area had feces on the floor that was not cleaned up until the next day. I definitely would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.
