“Beautiful Munnar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Set on the picturesque Munnar, the Sterling Munnar property is a nice property, though looks to have been short of maintenance. The room was good, and warm. The slopes inside the resort ensured the water drained without stagnating, when there was rains. There was a nice restaurant that served great food, though slightly expensive. There was a pool table, that was available for a pay-as-you-use. Kids section was OK, with some playing options.

Terrace greens is far from the commercial city, in the middle of beautiful mountains and tea gardens. I will definitely like to visit again to the hotel just because of the location.

Not to take away anything away from the Hotel, the services are awesome and the food is delicious. I will recommend this place to anyone planning a trip to unwind and immerse in the beauty of the nature.

Room Tip: You can ask for Valley View Rooms.

The location is around 20 Kms from munnar city but the view is scenically I value staying away from the bustle in locations like these so it was wonderful. The property is nice n big . We stayed in the cottages so we're surrounded by undergrowth, bushes n an accompanying musty smell in the rooms, but also the wonders of scenic views from the window, and a small kitchenette for midnight Maggi in the cold weather :-).
Requests are met but with some delay which should be expected given the size of the property and the distance of the cottages from the main building
They have game rooms with a good range of indoor game choices
The star offering is the good - to be specific what I enjoyed was the quality and spread of good North Indian food available. The. Breakfast buffet was lavish n great quality as we'll - incl American breakfast options available . Dinner a la carte options were absolutely wonderful in quality and taste

this is an excellent property located right inside the terraced tea gardens of Munnar. The rooms have been renovated and refurbished. The stay was extremely comfortable with good services. The only negative is that it is away from Munnar town by about 21 kms. But you really do not miss any thing, as you have to drive down to see around. The food is little expensive but you have the option to buy some local food from shops located right at the gate. Alternatively, you can use the microwave to cook some light meals.
Overall, an excellent place to stay

We went during the monsoon period in Aug - we had booked a cab from our houseboat in Allepey to Munnar and the drive was brilliant winding through tea estates. The resort is a good distance from the town but I think that was its biggest advantage. The best way to reach the facility is by cab in my opinion though there are buses available to the town as well from the foothills. The town itself is quite crowded and did not seem interesting though to be honest we did not explore much apart from spice shops which are quite common in city center - apparently spices are a big export item from this town.

The backdrop of the resort is fantastic with the hills and clouds. The rooms at Sterling are quite good - we stayed in a sterling timeshare owner's cottage - I guess these are the same as rooms you can book online. Rooms were simple and tastefully designed. The location ensured that resort was quiet and without any disturbance. Staff was very courteous and even tried to convince us to sign-up for a timeshare.

It was quite cold and windy during this stay at night so the room heater really felt useful. The resort staff provided us with their large sturdy umbrellas to help us move around during the rains in the day. If you are planning your stay well in advance you can contact my dad Mr. Ashok (+ 91 9884247834) in Chennai for booking a stay at any Sterling resort. He can facilitate your reservation at a very good discount to market rates.

You could potentially warm water or make only Maggi here with the microwave provided in the room but they had some good combo offers for breakfast and dinner during the monsoon season at their in house restaurant so we did not see the need for cooking equipment in the room. They even had temporary biriyani food stalls during lunch time at popular tourist stops around Munnar and informed us in advance in case you are looking for food because it can be quite difficult to spot restaurants in these touristy places. The restaurant was also quite well designed and they had some live food bars each night.

They had a few holiday activities with music and group games in the evening for all visitors to get together..During the day you could join a group trek and some other outdoor activities for a fee. Some video games were also available for rent.

Overall it has been one of our most memorable trips in south India especially so after our over-rated houseboat stay in Kerala. Highly recommend visiting Munnar and staying at Sterling.

Hi Friends,

Firstly, I just loved Munnar and hence nothing else matters so much. We were forced to stay at this property last min cos the other booked hotel (Devonshire) was sold out. We were part of a large group and did not have any major complains. The main problem was of too much crowd. Almost like a mela. People checking in and out all the time. Every area of the hotel was busy. I am kind of person who likes a little peace on a holiday. However since its sterling with thousands of members, expect the resort to be busy all the time. The pros and cons below :

Pros

1) Nice garden area outside the hotel. Saw a lot of people spend most of their day there. Good for the kids
2) Being a sterling property, recreation was once again top class. Kids refused to move around with us. Too much to do and all either free or reasonably priced
3) The rooms were decent. No complains. Much better than Kodai property. Good quality beds
4) The breakfast spread was huge.
5) First day food exp. was bad but last day was a pleasant surprise. Will give benefit of doubt
6) Lovely view of the valley from the hotel

Cons
1) The service was extremely slow. Understandable given the crowd. The staff seemed irritated most of the time
2) The hotel is 20 kms away from Munnar on the other side. This means for most of the sight seeing you have to cross munnar town. Hence a lot of traveling. Given this it is advisable to stay around munnar town or slightly away from it
3) The breakfast area always had something unpleasant happening
4) They have a spa. Did not use it but pricing was unreasonable

Overall, sterling resorts are mostly very busy places and it seems as if they cater to lower middle class and middle class. Personally, I would stay here again only if in a group else many other lovely options. Club Mahindra is one. Much better property.

Happy Traveling
Gautam

Tip of the review
1) Have to dine at the club mahindra property
2) Dont miss the early morning jeep ride to the top. Jannat. Have not seen a more beautiful sun rise in my life. Also happens to the point of highest tea plantation in the world

Room Tip: Take the rooms facing the valley (front view)
