“Sterling Usual and Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2008

Stay here is as usual and really good. The staff there are polite and rooms in good condition. Perfectly Ok for members and for those who would like to cook themselves. Excellent cooking range and kitchenette. Rooms are cleaned every day. There is Grocery shop and handicrafts shop. Outside the resort also there are shops for purchases. The Travel desk is perfect for all Tours and not at all costly. I would recommend the resort for all.

The resort was good and was situated at just about the perfect place facing the lake. The rooms were clean and tidy, however a bit more efforts would have always helpded. The room service, house keeping were always at their toes and provided good service all throughout the stay, however I just wished if the food would have been better. One thing that was good was they provided an electric cooking gas and few utencils which could be used to cook light meals like maggie and upma. It was only once that we ordered food from room service orelse we either got it from dhabas just outside the resort or Club Mahindra or cooked it in the kitchen.

Munnar is a beautiful place with Tea plantations all around, the people here are really good and soft spoken. I had a very good overal experience.

Moving around munnar and neighbouring places was never a problem. We hired a Qualis, which I would say was very reasonable and the driver (Saviour) was very polite, soft spoken and knowledgeable, though he wouldnt understand hindi, he would speak and understand simple english. Here is his number ([--]) for all those who are looking forward for a trip to munnar.

You can cover the whole of munnar in just about a day and then plan your stay and move around closeby areas like thekkady (for people interested in wildlife), kodai (a place in the clouds), Allapy (stay in the boat house in the back waters) and many more places depending upon the length of your stay.

We were planning to stay at Siena Village first but there was a problem with our booking. So they offered to put us into the equally good but less pricey Sterling Resort (so they said, I hope the rooms at Siena Village are in a better condition). At first sight we were impressed by the size of the property, but at a closer look it is obvious that this place is falling apart. One of the staff members at the front desk was wearing a shirt which was half torn and full of stains. We were showed two different rooms and noticed that they were in a terrible condition. As if they were just watching how everything was getting old and broken. In front of one of the rooms there was still empty food plates and bottles standing on the floor. Why would you show someone a room which is not yet cleaned properly? We saw enough and chose to stay at Windermere Estate which is paradise compared to this hole.

I went there with my wife and my 2 year old kid i preffered this property as i am a member of Sterling Resorts. I dont know where to start from because nothing is right at this place. On the other hand Munnar is a must go place its like you are in clouds. Here at sterling the rooms smell very bad, The room walls are dirty, the door mets are really un usable, there are no locks in the room doors they have a cheap aluminum stopper, The fridges are very very old and work only when you complain and someone comes and does something, all the shelves in the fridge have rusted and are not usable. Hot plates dont work, Heaters dont work, TV does not work. The staff here is even worst they are not rude i will say they are cold they want respond to any thing you say or ask for. The grossory shop at the resort have all the thing priced higher then when you get outside. Mine was a really bad experience here i would rather suggest to opt for any guest house insted where atleast your expectations are not high. Never ever go to this resort.

  • Liked — The best thing is that this resort is still doing business even after being so horrible.
  • Disliked — Smelly, very very dirty, no heating arrangement, dirty bed sheets, no latch inside the rooms almost every thing was undesirable.

As this hotel is good 30 mins away from Munnar you'd expect to be compensated in terms of great view, outdoor activities but you get nothing. The room was dirty and smelled terrible. The entire place seems to be falling apart. The only brightspot was the value for money. Everything the massage, room service, taxi was very resonable. You must not miss the massage.
We wish we had rather stayed in the Club Mahindra resort next door.

We stayed at the Sterling Resort for 3 days during Deceber 2006. It is a fair way out of Munnar (30 min by car) and so not very convinient. The first impression from the nicely kept grounds is soon replaced by tired looking rooms. The linen was old, damp and falling apart. The few appliances like gas cook top and TV worked but had seen better days The staff were helpful, food and room service good and ayurvedic massage excellent. The place is offered to both Sterling Resort members and as a hotel. For members, it may be worth it to recoup some of their money but as a hotel, there will be better options around Munnar.
