“Too far from tourist standard”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

When you book an hotel for some days of vacation, you expect a lot. On the paper, the Hamaca Garden seems great. 2 nice swimming pools, looking good area, again service standard are unexpectivelly low. This is OK. I'm not taking showers 5 times a day and don't stay in the room during the day... BUT for the price you pay, you expect more than a tourist old age factory. Time has change.

Room Tip: Look around this place in Boca Chica for better deals and quality hotels.

Travelled to the Be Live Hamaca in March.. Absolutely horrible vacation to say the least. We travelled as a group of 3, all 19 year old girls who have travelled several times in the last 2 years together on our own and with friends (Mexico, Carribean cruise, Cuba). Upon booking we had asked to upgrade our room, and were told that this was not necessary as the room we had booked was actually a "newly renovated and upgraded room". We arrived at the hotel on Friday around 2PM, asked several workers to show us too our room and were led in circles, since nobody was able to understand and communicate with us. After about 30 minutes we finally found someone to help us and were told that our room was across the street.. A local busy street, everytime we wanted to go to our room. When we arrived at our room it was discusting. Bedsheets ripped, one of our 2 lamps missing a lampshade, our "flat screen tv" was an old box that only had 2 channels, minifridge door was broken, our "closet" consisted of 4 walls with no rack to hang hangers on nor a shelf, bathroom had not been cleaned previous to us as there was hair all over the counter and toilet, and no towels in the bathroom. We were slightly upset at first but decided we would not be in the room much anyways so we would make the best of it. We called the front desk and asked for some towels, and if they could get someone to clean our bathroom, we were told it would all be sent right up to us. An hour later I called back to the front desk, same response. Finally 2 hours later I took the ten minute walk up to the front desk and asked them to give me towels right there, was told they didn't have them and someone would bring them up wihin 5 minutes. After several calls at 930 PM our towels finally arrived (bathroom still was not cleaned), and at about 10PM another male came to fix our air conditioning. My friends and I were tired from travelling and decided to take a nap and get up around 10 30 to get ready and go to the disco. We ended up sleeping right through this time.. however when we were sleeping, sometime around 12/1 AM i heard banging on the door but figured the person knocking would leave. After about ten minutes I finally got out of bed and as I was on my way to the door somebody inserted a key and entered.. Who walks in? The man who brought us towels, the man who fixed the air conditioning, and they brought a 3rd friend.. what a coincidence since they both saw that there was 3 of us when they had come to our room earlier this evening. They walked in screaming DISCO DISCO with a bottle of wine and my other friend yelled at them to get out, as they were leaving they slipped the bottle opener into our room. Then they proceeded to call our room over and over again from 2-3 AM. We complained to the manager and they had security put in front of our room the next 2 days (they obviously felt this was a problem). We were promised each day from the beginning that we would be moved to the main building(where we had booked for), but never were moved. Sunday night my one friend stayed in the room to sleep while me and the other one went out for dinner, she had the deadbolt on and securiy out front so we did not think it would be a problem. The manager who we had saw minutes before asked us if he should check on her, we assured him several times that she was sleeping and to leave her. He goes to our room, being the only person we trusted at the resort she opened the door.. he lured his way into the room began to kiss her and tell her he wants to take her to santo damingo to see his family.. she was tryingto get away saying "ARE U GOING TO KILL ME" as she is absolutely petrified and he proceeds to say "ci ci" thinking she was saying kiss, which was later clarified. He finally left and we had been in contact with our travel agent, parents at home, and tour operator so we contacted them and were finally moved out of the resort by the Tuesday. However Friday to Tuesday at this hotel were very difficult and definitely not a vacation. Every male that worked at this resort was very inappropriate and made us feel very unsafe and uncomfortable when we have never felt this way on vacation before. Not to mention that there was huge leaks in the ceiling over the snackbar food, condition of the lobby and everything else was discustingly dirty and worn down, snackbar rarely had a food, beach was dirty, floors in the buildings had a thick layer of dirt on them, buffet food was the worst i have ever experienced on vacation and several other inconveniences occurred. This place is more of a local hotel and not a resort!!!

Room Tip: if you do have a trip booked you would be better in the main building because the garden rooms are T...

Please do yourself and family a favour and don’t go to this place. I don’t have enough time to go on and on about all that is wrong. I went with my family from Feb 24-March 2, 2012 and it was disappointing. I travel enough to know the difference between what is acceptable and what is not. From sharing my room with not only my family but cockroachs to the extra long line up to get dinner at the only buffet. My room was not cleaned twice and on one occasion I had to ask for fresh room towels at 5:45pm after being at the beach all day with my kids. There is more to say but you can read all the rest of the other reviews to get a good idea of what your getting yourself into. It was in my opinion a 2 start at best and anything over $400 including airfare is too much

I need to mention that you should bring a large cup for drinks (stingy on th liquor)

Room Tip: Complaine to try and get a upgrade because Im sure you will need it.

I went to Be Live hamaca From March 5 to 12, and seriously, i had a great time.
I traveled with 1 of my friend. The Garden room are pretty standard, but seriously, who cares? The only things you are gonna do in there is sleep. The shower had not much pressure but it's like 5 minuts of your day, so get over it. It's no big deal.
The food was awesome, the buffet always had different meal and they were all good. You really need to be picky to no get satisfied.
The beach is quite small, but the sand was nice and the water awesome, so it was great overall! Some activities on the beach and fun stuff.
There was way enough chair for everybody, i don't know why people were saying everybody needed to fight to get one serisouly.
The staff was always friendly to me, and we had a good service overall.
We met a lot of people, i think there is more single then couple's, or maybe 50/50.
The check in was very fast, but we were only 10 people in the bus when we arrived. Of course if you are like 50+ it's gonna be longer, what do you expect? You are on vacation, just enjoy yourself and relax a little bit.
Just be happy and be nice with the people who serves you, and it's all going to be good.
If you can't get out of your comfort zone or just can't handle different culture, then stay at your home please.

Room Tip: If you really want to have a nice room then upgrade to Ocean view (~30$/Day) it's going to worht...

We made a week long trip to Boca Chica at the beginning of February, and came back with mixed feelings. We decided to stay in Be live Hamaca Garden for two reasons; first, it was close to Santa Domingo and secondly it was located at the end of a beach with the biggest reef on the whole island, which ment very calm waters to swim.
We were not disappointed, the water was always like oil, and the capital city was half an hour away. But, those who fly from Montreal has to be careful during the booking so that they don't have to have an extra trip. The plane lands at Punta Cana airport which most of the people choose to stay. We were the only couple who stayed in Boca Chica and had to make a three hour trip in a mini van to our hotel. Make sure you choose a plane that lands at an airport close to Boca Chica. The roads are in very poor condition and although passing through little towns and villages is interesting, having to take that trip twice is too much.
When it comes to Be live Hamaca... Hilton used to run that establishment but quit managing it long ago with conceivable reasons. Boca Chica is a town where usually local people visit and especially during the weekends, it is 'immersed' by a local crowd. The hotel has a small beach with very little shadow and there are not enough beach chairs for everyone. And when you step out of the hotel property it is simply a 'mad house'. Very interesting to see though, I am not sure it's what we mean when we talk about having 'a nice vacation'. Too noisy, too crowded and too dirty.
Inside the hotel, every single detail and the whole service is second grade. The open buffet is the best thing Be Live Hamaca has. The variety is not poor and the dishes are generally tasty. Many local people stay in this hotel, so I believe the buffet has the food that they prefer to eat. So much the better, otherwise you just simply eat bland 'international food'.
The restaurants are like a joke! They are corners turned out to be 'a Mexican restaurant' with two meters of fabric and several hats! The Dominican Republic Restaurant has the worst atmosphere one can ever see. It's better to eat in pure darkness than that bluish/greyish horrible lightning. What makes things sadder is that, the food was delicious!
Although DR is a coffee country, in the hotel, to have a proper cup of coffee is one of the hardest goals to achieve! Either the coffee machine is broken or the guy who will serve it is not around, whatever the reason is, you can't have coffee whenever you want. The situation is the same for most of the drinks you ask for.
If you want to stay in an oceanfront room the price is almost double and it's very noisy. The only advantage is that you can eat all the time in the beautiful beachside Pelicano restaurant where the rest can only have breakfast. The rooms are not 'shining clean' but if you're not the 'detector' type of a guest, there is nothing that will make you feel uncomfortable about it.
All in all, it is a very poorly run hotel and one shouldn't have a vacation there if he doesn't have to. To have a walk in Boca Chica beach is an opportunity to witness how the Dominicans enjoy their weekends, but it's better if you stay somewhere else and just make a day trip for it.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are much better, but they are not considered rooms, they are 'residential suit...

Arrived Thursday March 8th late after great time at The Sanctuary in Cap Cana. What a shock! It took forever to check in - they could not find reservation and then tried to put us in a small room even though we had booked a presidential suite loft. Finally we got to the room and we went for a late dinner and returned to find that the keys did not work. But then the air conditioning did not work (27*). And the noise from the disco was so loud we thought the walls would fall down and nothing in the mini bar.
Friday March 9th brought more problems with the air conditioning still not working even though maintenance took out the filters. It looked like they had never been changed as they were charcoal black. Three trips to front desk with an hour wait each time and no resolution. I then called my travel agent and he determined the problem. Be Live Hamaca is overbooked so they really do not care. I thought there was going to be fights at reception with some people so upset. One guy from New York was nooking a flight home.

So, in short STAY AWAY!'

The hotel service was horrible. Had problems getting safe lock, door key that worked properly. Never got a drink when asked for it. Also heard lots of people complaining of room cleanliness. One person there was saying they did't even had working shower and toilet. The beach area was very nice though. But sometimes very hard to get a beach towel and seat.
