“Wonderful food, wine and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

The name of this restaurant is Cal'enric as in the photograph. We went there for dinner and enjoyed a wonderful meal, great wine and excellent service. The restaurant has been operated by the same family for a number of generations and is a must for travellers interested in a high quality dining experience. Highly recommended.

“Sound cooking, lovely people, not sure about the style and gimmicks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

The restaurant is at the end of a village and benefits from plenty of space - it looks to be a complete rebuild of a farmhouse. We took Sunday lunch that started with drinks outside and an endless stream of nibbles, much of it with rather gimmicky presentation. The 60€ menu allows the choice of 3 dishes plus dessert from the a la carte. Only Catalan or Spanish menus are available - my advice is to take a dictionary. Fortunately the super Maitre D knew some French and English.
The cooking is contemporary and admirably keeps it simple. We found the main courses a bit minimal - grilled strips of 60 day aged pork loin came with four small savoury puff balls and that was it. The fish dishes were more rewarding, sea bass on a rosti with an interesting purée for example.
The decor follows a dark slate/basalt theme - the area is volcanic nature reserve. Diners are seated in alcoves of 2 or 3 tables that for us detracted from a shared dining experience.
Coffee saw the gimmicks return; a ridiculous smoke "volcano" of frozen CO2 just to serve a few glazed hazelnuts and a chocolate truffle each.
