“Business Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

I stayed at the hotel on business trip last week i was pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms the quality of the evening meals and the friendly staff serving both in the evening and at breakfast , just round the corner was a nice pub The Brown Cow (i think that was its name) the decor in the room (8) was good and the use of free WiFi was a bonus overall a very nice stay.

I stay here regularly on business so as a returning customer that is a positive recommendation. Most of the rooms are good, those on the first floor in the main part of the hotel particularly so. Room Nos 1 to 15 (I think) are in an annex and tend to be small, less well decorated and suffer from traffic noise. Room Nos 18 and above are good. Whatever the room number they are always clean and the staff are friendly.

I have not eaten in the restaurant, preferring to eat in the bar area. The bar food can be a bit hit and miss. It is all reasonably priced and the service is very efficient but the menu is vary 'ordinary' and quite limited. I have had a couple of meals that were almost inedible but mostly they are quite tasty. If you want a different eating experience then go the Brown Cow pub which is literally only one minute's walk away. Huge choice, beautifully cooked, massive portions - hardly fine dining but you only need to eat there once each week!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the annex if you can. Room Nos 18 and above are nicer.

Beautiful hotel, Excellent location. I stayed for two nights and attended a wedding in the hotel also. Rooms fabulous, attention to detail great, beautiful setting for a wedding. Unfortutantly, staff appeared uninterested in looking after their guests and did not appear to be able to cope with large numbers of people in the hotel. Service at the bar and the wedding meal was terrible. Food delicious when you eventually got it but huge gaps between cources, nobody got their food together and one ladies meal was forgotten about at our table!

Just arrived back from a 2 night stay at Chequers for a friends wedding! We had room 21 which we believe was a newly renovated part of the hotel! Very classy, decorated beautifully and very clean. The wedding itself was lovely, the food, the service and the room. Breakfast was good 2, they make to order so can have anything. Pretty flexible with times as well. There is only one very small negative, as it was a busy wedding day, the service at the bar was pretty chaotic, with food also being served to the public through the bar area, but other than that, bar was very reasonably priced for a hotel! Lovely stay n would definitely return.

Really nice place to stay the room was very clean especially the bathroom which is something I always note. The food is pretty good and the breakfast is as filling as you want it to be.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Heating in the room was good and the radiators have thermostats fitted to them so the temperature is controllable. I would stop there again if I am up that way.

There is no swimming pool or fitness centre hence the marking

What a lovely place to stay, not to big and not to small. Very friendly staff, prompt & polite. The room was ideal, and the bathroom also with nice hot water for a shower, clean towels ( plenty of ) t.v in the room plus tea and coffee an iron and ironing board, what more could you ask for, oh and a nice double bed. People tend to say bad things about the bedroom etc. but how long do you actually stay in them ? Any way, me and the wife where down for a wedding whom i havent seen for 15 yrs, and it was great. There must of been about 50 guests and there was still room to manover, the staff worked really well to serve us, plus the food was excellent throughout. In the morning we had breakfast, and that aslo was brilliant, had cereal first with orange juice then they took our order for a full English and with in 10 mins it was served. All in all, it was brilliant.

Room Tip: room 22 which was on the right hand side of the hotel.

Hotel was easy to find in a quiet location with ample parking. Reception desk was directly in the front door with bell to call for service as the desk appeared to be unmanned at quiet periods; (when we arrived), we only waited 30 seconds for someone to come out. Helpful and polite receptionist gave quick easy check in. Entrance and bar decor traditional, clean and tidy. Room was a little difficult to get to on 1st floor through narrow doorways, no lift, though nothing to complain about. Bedroom and bathroom had very modern contempory decor which was in excellent condition, both very clean and tidy. Ample space to move around in the room, plenty of storage space; useful for anyone wishing to stay for a week or longer. Bed - comfortable with clean sheets. Only bad point about the room was that it was ridiculously hot when we went to bed at 1am and I was not able to turn the radiator down- though did not call reception to compalin. There was no wall window just a roof window (1st floor rooms were built into the roof), which only opened a small vent - not very useful to let in any air in the hot room. Had undisturbed nights sleep and breakfast was fresh and tasty served in clean, light and modern restaurant by a very happy, friendly waitress. Check out was smooth and timely. Overall had a lovely experience and would definitly reccommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask reception for rooms with windows that open
