Booked Sunday Lunch at Wynyard Halls 'Wellington Restaurant' and took a slow drive there with a view to walking around the grounds over the nice Bank Holiday Weekend <today!> The driveway into the Hotel itself was a bit confusing- Some more clear signs need to be considered (We had the same problem leaving- came across a road blocked with logs and had to do a gentle 3 point turn (dont worry- we were very careful of the lawn).
Once we arrived at the hotel I was thrilled- it's beautiful and so luxurious. We had a walk around the house and sat on the rear terrace for coffee while waiting for our lunch booking. Lovely grounds and a lovely building.
We were an hour early but the place was fascinating and i really wanted to have a full nosey around (but didn't!) The restaurant menu was good. The dining room wasn't jam packed and the service was luxuriously paced (IE you should allow a couple of hours) The emphasis seems to be on proper service and proper preparation instead of speed. The wine list was amazing but I didn't get to try any.
I had the Broccoli and wild garlic veloute and my god- it was bursting with freshness (and cream!)
Roast beef was amazingly tender and the veg were lovely, The yorkshire puddings were only just slightly better done that i like them- but a heck of a lot better than I can make them! The Peach Melba was delicious, The deserts are fairly small but then after a large plateful of food it was the perfect foil.
All of the staff I saw were communicative, very competent and I was thrilled that they crumbed down the tables after course!
You know what - £25 each for a sunday lunch- (£5 more than a harvester restaurant). You would be crazy NOT to go to the 'Wellington' (My friend was charged a child portion as he didn't want starter or dessert ) I'm thrilled, what a find!!!
