“Really good, except for one very disappointing staff member”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

Stayed for a wedding recently, with the reception held at the hotel itself.

Very nice throughout the reception: Food, drinks, service all pleasant and efficient.

They were let down (badly) by the Front of House Hostess, who ended the evening by basically bullying us out the door (even though half the guests at the reception were hotel guests too).

I've worked extensively in hospitality, so I know the frustration of a group that dawdles in leaving a function... but there is a right way to react and a wrong way to react.

Right way, with a smile: Thanks very much guys, have you had a great evening? Just letting you know we'll need this room cleared pretty soon, if that's OK? Thanks guys.

Wrong way (AKA the Hostess): Abruptly and rudely barges through the group telling everyone "The function is closed. The function is closed." over and over and over ad nauseum. No smile. Barely even eye contact.

After a really fun evening it was a really disappointing way to end it all. Thankfully the bride and groom had already moved on, but the rest of us were left really agitated. We weren't drunk or disorderly but we were made to feel like we were just a massive inconvenience instead of... you know... valued customers?!

I've worked at high-end reception venues and I know that finishing at 1am is not fun when the group is drunk or loud... but this was 11:45pm and we were being totally civil.

And finally, the room was nice, and breakfast too.

So my service rating is directed exclusively at that particular staff member. I imagine you guys can figure out who it is from what I've said.

Room Tip: I'm told the rooms on lower levels need some sound-proofing on Saturday nights, but ours was OK.

Hi Shane

Thank you for your review about your stay at the Brighton Savoy and attendance at a wedding reception held at the hotel.

I am pleased that you found the event 'very nice throughout the reception: Food, drinks, service all pleasant and efficient..

I am disappointed to hear your feedback about the experience at the conclusion of the event. If you could contact me via m.lee@brightonsavoy.com.au advising me of the date of the wedding you attended and which function room it was held in, It will give me an opportunity to identify the function host and discuss your feedback with them.

On a more positive note I'm glad you enjoyed your room and enjoyed breakfast. We have recently upgraded our Breakfast service and are getting a lot of positive feedback

My family have owned and operating the Brighton Savoy for the last 47 year, and we strive to ensure all experiences at the hotel are happy and pleasant.

warm regards

Stayed here on a Saturday Night when they had a wedding on. All the wedding guests parked in the underground carpark so there was no parking for guests staying at the hotel. My room was right next to the function room which loud music was played until midnight and noisy guests talking all night in the foyer

Room Tip: get a room well away from function rooms

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your feedback we apologise that the Brighton Savoy hosted a wedding that impacted on your stay with us.

The Brighton Savoy does host events, primarily on Saturday evenings and we do offer rooms on higher floors that are away from event spaces.

The Brighton Savoy offers two levels of undercover parking which is available to all guests either staying at the hotel or attending events, This parking is free, and on occasion the car park does get full which can be disappointing.

Warm Regards

Bernard

Wouldn't stay anywhere else unless needed to be in the CBD. Facilities are 5 star, everything is clean modern and works! comfortable beds and luxury bathrooms. Staff are friendly and competent. Safe underground parking.

Room Tip: Double glazing means road noise is at a minimum.

Right across from the beach and highly recommended if you specify what you want in advance. Popular wedding and party venue that can be very noisy if you get the wrong room. Either ask for top floor or well away from the noisy areas. Rooms spacious and great especially with sea view. Great staff, breakfast food quite OK, evening food acceptable. Plenty of car parking. Just 200 metres from the delightful Brighton Baths with pay per visit gym, sea bathing, excellent fine dining restaurant upstairs and great all day cafe / bistro downstairs - well worth the walk. The hotel steam room sauna was never in operation.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor or away from function rooms

Came for a friends wedding & decided to make a short stay out of it - what a great long weekend ( perfect weather didn't hurt, especially given the location directly across from the most beautiful beach) also very handy to church st shopping mall. The wedding was held at the hotel and both the food & room were lovely. Staff couldn't do enough to help and really like how personal and homey it felt here, its not like a big city hotel and has much more of a European flavour. Loved our room and the library in the foyer

Room Tip: worth paying extra for the upgrade to a room with a view

Good location. Accommodating staff. All the room amenities you would expect in a hotel. What more could you ask for.

Probably the most useful feature for us, and what set this apart from a hotel stay, was the Guest Laundry as were staying at the hotel a 2 week vacation.

The Intenert was fast and free which is always good

The free parking was also handy and saved us a lot of money of we had to pay for it

Just spend a week at the hotel over summer, and Brighton was a great place to be in the warm weather from taking a dip in the sea, to window shopping in Church st.

The hotel appeared very busy with people come and going, and also running a number of weddings on the weekend, I like a bit of atmosphere and i was aware that the hotel was an award winning wedding venue, so expected that there would be a bit of activity and music from the function rooms.

If you like to live in a monastery, or a retirement home , stay home,

The breakfast buffet was continental in nature and i was able to order a freshly cooked hot dish every morning,

I didn't dine in the restaurant for dinner, but as i was heading out in the evening, there was always a few people dining, and the aroma of the meals was very enticing.

Parking was easy and free with 2 levels, and the hotel front desk is attending 24 hours which is very hand when one umm stumbles home in the early hours of the morning and has lost ones key,
