“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

We had a dream time here. The house is amazing, tastefully decorated. Our room’s terrace was perfect for an evening braai while our 8-year-old son kept jumping over and over again in the pool and played with their dog Sophy (he still talks about her).

One afternoon, Ditte and Graham took us in their boat up the river because we happend to mention that we liked birds while their son was fishing with the kids of another family !

Unbelievable people and place !

This is my third time staying at Kowie River guest house and each time it just gets better. Amazing views, great rooms and the fishing is definitely something to write home about. Dale will not only cook you a superb breakfast, but will show you all the best fishing spots and techniques to almost guarentee a nice catch. Thank you for the homely hospitality, and hope to be back next year.

We were late and frazzled when we arrived - only to be invited to join the owner's family for dinner and a much needed glass of wine. We were bowled over by their thoughtfulness and generosity - it was a fabulous way to begin our holiday. Although the wet weather was out of their control, everything else was just perfect - the room, the breakfasts and best of all a boat trip on the Kowie River with Dale, the owner's son who is a keen fisherman. He pointed out game on the hillside, a fish eagle, a crested eagle and even an otter as well as catching prawns for bait for the fishing rods. My husband landed three fish (thanks to Dale very generously giving him his rod!) - a grunter, dusky cob and garrick - the three main species in the river and he was thrilled to bits. Dale even took a video of the trip which he edited and copied onto a dvd for us and was ready to watch after breakfast the following morning! Truly exceptional hospitality - we really felt we staying with friends. We will be back again I'm sure!

Room Tip: All three rooms are identical with riverside balconies. There is a fourth room with an internal cour...

This is the guesthouse to stay in if you like a bit of luxury, a good breakfast (nice coffee) and peace. Situated right on the river most of the rooms have a river view from the spacious private balcony. If you don't want to eat out the outdoor cooking facilities and microwave are perfect There's a great saline-water pool to swim in and access to the tow path from the property. Each room has a pair of binoculars for bird and boat watching - it's easy to spend a long time on the jetty watching life go by.
There are also larger suites available for families.
I loved my stay there and would happily go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room to really enjoy your time there.

This guesthouse is tucked away down an unimpressive side street but once inside wow it's fabulous. It's beautifully furnished with lots of special touches, like binoculars in every room to view the game on the hill opposite, Charlotte Rhys toiletries and a decanter of sherry. The rooms all have patios with self catering facilities and look out onto the Kowie River and the garden has a pool and loungers for relaxing. Dale, our host was amazing - making smoothies, delicious bagels and muffins as well as a full cooked breakfast. He went to a great deal of trouble to make sure we had a great holiday, advising on shops and restaurants and making reservations for us. As well as a chef he is also a keen fisherman and offered to take my husband out with him on his boat, lending him rods etc. For my husband it was the best holiday ever and we've already booked our return trip. It's a beautiful spot and Dale is a perfect generous host

This is a magical little guest house in Port Alfred with stunning views over the river. Ditte and Dale do everything to make you feel at home. Rooms are large and very comfortable with big walk-in showers and deep baths. Breakfasts are delicious and usually enjoyed on the patio when the weather is good. We enjoyed a lovely boat trip up the river, 4 species of Kingfishers made up for the total lack of fish!
We loved it so much my parents have already booked to stay again!

Room Tip: The family room is the only room without a river view; but it is the largest. Guests are welcome to...
