“Super clean, tidy and friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

We had the best stay at Lazy Day! Planned for one night, but ended up with 5 nights.
Friendly staff, nice calm-atmosphere, good food, beautifull beach and the total absence of unpleasant and drunk Russians made our holiday.

Perfect place!

Lazy Day, the Resort, was true in every sense to the name. Ann and the team, provide a seamless, island style, relaxed service, which simply helps you get steadily chilled and more lazy. The place seems to have a totally chilled atmosphere to it, which we sensed the moment we arrived. Yet they are on top of all the details. Quite a feat! Our room was beach front, with views straight out of a travel brochure. The rooms are basic, but comfortable! They have all you need, from fans to ac and fridge. We were particular impressed with the effort they went to for our sons 12th birthday! A very thoughtful and meaningful touch!

We spent as a couple 6 nights at this resort and we've felt very, very good. The location is the best you can find on the island, beautiful, clean, a bit rocky beach.
The bungalows are located near the beach in a fabulous garden (well maintained). The room was very clean, but basic, no tv (but for us was not a problem), no closet, with AC, fridge, safety deposit box, wi-fi, mosquito net, complimentary water daily and a gorgeous view of the ocean.
The restaurant has many dishes, very tasteful, but a bit expensive. There are not many choices for eating on the island( we've travel in the middle of October) but you can try Koh Mak Sea Food restaurant, which is nearby.
The owners speak very good English and are friendly doing everything in their power to make you feel as home.
So if you look for a nice and a quiet place the best choice for you is Lazy Day Resort.

I would echo a lot of what has already been said here. My husband and I stayed here as a special treat - a belated honeymoon in February 2013. The resort is set in beautiful gardens in sniffing distance of the beach.

The staff are wonderful and can't do enough for you, but not intrusive. The food, yes a tad on the expensive side by local standards but deliciously fresh and spices cooked to your palate.

It really is one of the best resorts on the Island and has earnt it's place in the top list.

It is ideal for families and couples.

Did not stay in the resort itself but had lunch there and snacks on several occasions.
Food is nice and inexpensive, we had some garlic bread, fries, and papaya salad.
You can also use the free and fast Wifi with a great beach view.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

If you appreciate nature, you will love your stay at "Lazy Day the Resort". We stayed here on March 13 - 16, 2013. We originally booked for 2 nights, but as soon as we dropped our bags into our bungalow we book an extra night here. We simply love it here. There are 4 of us, my wife and I and our 2 children age 10 and 8.

The Staffs:
Lazy Day is a family run resort which the owner Mr. Ann (pronounce "Unn" with a shorter sound) and his wife, Jub, run the resort themselves. They are extremely friendly and very courteous. We felt that from the very first phone contact when we booked, the moment that he picked us up at the pier, and every day at the resort till he dropped us off when we left. These made all the differences and our vacation was perfect because of them, thank you very much. We felt like their service came from the bottom of their hearts something that you won't get from chained hotels, in fact, we NEVER get this vibe from any other family run resorts that we been to on other islands, ever. They just want your stay to be as excellent as it could be. Their staffs are also very friendly and courteous as well, all of them. We felt like they're proud to work at the resort. That is a rare thing.

The View:
The resort is right on the beach with coconut trees along the beach. We've the beach view right from our bungalow. The beach is steps away from all bungalows and quite nice with approximately 300 meters long with shallow water underwater rocks on one side. There are plenty of marine lives right in the sea literally a few steps from the beach.
We snorkeled 3 - 5 meters off the beach (about waist deep) both morning and afternoon every day and saw a few sea cucumbers as well as many schools of fish. The sea is crystal clear and extremely calm all day long. You can see many fishes at ankle deep level, too if you don't want to snorkel. You won't get tired of this. There is a net casted to prevent jelly fish which make it safe to swim or snorkel should they come. They weren't there during our stay.

The Bungalow:
The bungalow made of concrete painted in white with a minimalist design. The room itself doesn't have any television or telephone, hence the name "Lazy Day". I think it's perfect for a vacation and who needs one when you can swim with fishes or watching them go about their lives all day. You can then sit up watching stars and listening to the soothing sound of waves and the jungle sounds all night long. We felt very relax here. If you need to catch up with news there is a TV in the restaurant or bring your own laptop and you can connect with free Wi-Fi. The room is very spacious with a King size bed and a single bed with enough room to put up an extra bed. The balcony has 2 wooden sun lounge chairs and 2 beach lounge chairs which 4 of us can lay there all day long. There is an air-condition, a desk, a closet, and a refrigerator in the room which you won't get to use much of them. We would prefer a screen on all doors and windows so that we can leave them open to catch the sea breeze. The price for the bungalow is very reasonable and comparable to other more popular islands that we been to.

Water:
You've got to appreciate what the owner did for us, the fresh and clean water. The water here is crystal clear like it should be which is rare for seaside towns or on an island. We went to a few islands as well as several seaside cities on the mainland and most of their water is a bit harsh with yellowish in color. You will feel clean and fresh when you brush your teeth just as it should be.

Food:
We found that food here is very reasonably priced. You've to consider that most ingredients (almost everything on this very small island) have to be brought over from the mainland which takes 3 hours by ferry, or 50 minutes by speedboat. The island of Koh Mak also opens for 8 months of the year and most resort will be closed during Monsoon season. We had similar food at many locations both on the mainland and other islands and the price here is not much more, deep fried fish with sweet n sour mango dressing cost THB 350 – 450 just like on the mainland. We ate mostly at the resort with 2 meals eaten outside.

Sand Flies:
It's a price to pay for nature. Sand fly is one of the indications of an undisturbed beach. The more they are the pure and undisturbed the beach is. They lay their eggs on the beach and if lots of tourists set foot on the beach their eggs won't hatch. The quickest way to get rid of them is using harmful chemicals which will sure to harm the marine lives that live just right off the beach. The local community here is aware of the problem and use natural resources like Camphor to rid them off the beach. If you're allergic to them or have sensitive skin please consult your doctor and pack necessary medicine just in case. We didn't run into them much, only a few bites each and we're ok with that.

You've got to appreciate nature as it's still pure here on Koh Mak. So, if you're looking for night life it might be better to look at bigger islands. The adjacent resort does have a beach bar with several cocktails to choose from and open till late. Try "Ao Khao on the rock" it's their specialty.

MUST DO!:
A visit to Koh Kham, a private island about 10 minutes boat ride from Koh Mak. It will cost THB 200 per person (100 for the boat, and 100 entrance fee which you get 1 free soft drink). You can rent a Kayak at the pier or swim there since the sea is so calm. There is a sand dune in the middle of the sea right out of the beach on the island. Which you will see and can walk at low tide (see attached pictures). We went with the first boat service at 0930 and came back at 1330. It was picture perfect. We snorkel around the beach there and saw many types of fish, sea cucumbers, sea urchin. We wish that we have an underwater camera. There is a beach bar which sell soft drink and beer as well as cup noodle. It's a good idea to ask the hotel to pack sandwiches and bottle water for you to take over to the island.

There are few tourists here compare to other more popular islands so if you prefer less crowd here should be on top of your list.

There is not a Jet Ski, banana boat, beach hustler, or an ATV insight anywhere on Koh Mak. The locals here really did a great job fending off those who will ruin your beach holiday. Koh Mak is very family friendly as well as perfect for couples who prefer privacy.

FYI: Electricity is scared here since the island gets its electricity from several government run diesel generators. So, if the fluctuation should occur it's understandable. You've got to appreciate what you got here on a remote island which is totally different from mainland or more populated islands.

If you're a smoker, please please please DO NOT litter, pick up your cigarette butts and put them in the bin! There are a few of them.
