We recently spent 11 days (10 nights) in Zitahli Kuda-Funafaru for our honeymoon. We did plenty of research before deciding on Zitahli and were rewarded with a first-class holiday experience. Before arriving in Zitahli we spent 3 nights in a 6 star resort & we'd rather be in Zitahli any day.
DIVING & SNORKLING:
For anyone thinking of diving in the Maldives, this is the place to do it. We were amazed at the amount of sea life we saw (dolphins, turtles, mantas, sharks & millions of fish) and the underwater visibility (25m+). Only in the Great Barrier reef in Australia can you see that much marine life in one place. The island's remoteness was perfect, as we never shared a dive site with another resort. The diving instructor's & the boat-crew's friendly nature, professionalism and diving knowledge is infectious and encouraged us to return each day. We dived 7/11 days. Snorkling around the island is easy & very nice. The water was very warm & shallow. You'll need to swim out about 50-100m to the edge of the reef to see larger fish & corals though.
We stayed in both the over-water & beach villa's. Have to admit the beach villa felt a lot more private & spacious (due to the surrounding tree's & extra beach space). There is something special about diving straight into the water from your room though. Both villa's were beautiful & huge. Great indoor/outdoor flow but very private once inside. Our 'room-boy' Hussen cleaned twice a day & laid fresh flowers each evening. The resort was at 100% occupancy for a few nights & we still hardly saw anybody else.
FOOD & DRINK:
Breeze buffet was great. Everything was freshly made and delicious. Each night they host a speciality cuisine with plenty of options. Breakfast is vast with everything you could possibly want. The staff are friendly & very attentive. The a la carte restaurant by the pool has a great setting, however quality lacked as they tried too hard to mix different types of cuisines (they should pick one type & specialise in it). We ate lunch by the pool or in-room each day, meals are $15-$25. Drinks were reasonably priced, especially for a remote island. Beers were $7, cocktails $10-$20. Tea, coffee (nespresso machine), fruit, water is fresh in the room each day.
SPA & GYM:
We went to the spa twice while we were there. The whole experience from the moment you take off your shoes at the front steps is fantastic. The spa is calm and serene with beautiful big open rooms. The quality of massages were first class. We also arranged for the trainer to take us for an outdoor yoga/pilates class one evening, this was a great way to relax before dinner.
