“Cloud Forest or Rain Forest?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Beautiful! The landscape is everything you would expect it to be.. the flora and fauna is spectacular... came out with some amazing photos and memories. Did the hanging bridges and not the zip lines.. children in tow.... but still the view from the hanging bridges was fantastic. You should do the zip lining if you can cause it looks amazing and fun.

“Rain Forest - Beautiful but rainy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

The drive to the mountain had the most beautiful sights of mountains, valleys, and cloud forest! This was more impressive that the actual rain forest. We were here on our own - no tours were available at the time we were there. There was rain in the forest all of the time. We saw minimal animals, and were hoping for the quetzal, but apparently this was the wrong time of year. They are more visible in May-June. Some people that went with a guide did see one, though, very high up, with a scope. The hike was refreshing, but don't expect piles of wildlife here. It was also windy, and at the point of the continental divide lookout, we could see only milky white clouds, with no visibility ahead. Maybe - try the Curu Cancha reserve just before this park. That is a combination - rain/cloud forest and intermediate, and there is more chance to see animals. We should have listened to the welcome center rep's aside, that there is this other option in this private park! (info center on the outskirts of the town, quite a way from the actual parks). But we can chalk up a visit to the original rainforest - from our bucket list. It was a nice experience! And don't forget warm clothes and raingear. You will need it. I guess I didn't believe that the instant you enter the forest, the rain starts, and continues until you exit again, to the parking lot... (key word - RAIN)

“up in the clouds and mist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

when in costa rica one should visit this area. tour guides are quite knowledgable and the hike is interesting. lots of great views, but don't expect to see alot of wildlife -- they are trying to stay alive (and hidden).

“Go with Andy at Forest Alive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

So many people talk about how they didn't see animals, but we hired Andy from the U.S. before we left, and he planned our trip with us and helped us every step of the way! Our night hike was the best. There are so many things to do in Monteverde, and it's hard to know which ones to do, but we worked with Andy ahead of time, who is totally trustworthy, kind, a lot of fun, intelligent and educated in Forestry and safety. We had a blast and saw so many amazing animals. I would not go without him!!
