“A gorgeous spot in MonteVerde”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at hotel Belmar. We had a forest view room which did not benefit from the excellent vistas of the bar, restaurant and more expensive rooms but was none the less beautiful. We chose the hotel aft reading excellent reviews and it did not disappoint. The staff were excellent, the food was great and accommodations were extremely comfortable. The Internet was reliable throughout the property. Inexplicably, one of the hotels greatest features was the least talked about - there is a gorgeous pond amongst the hotel gardens, in the midst of a lush garden below the main building. It's like a small, secret garden with lush grass to sit on in the sun - a wonderful place for yoga, reading or a stroll.

The gripes:
- If you're in the 'other' building (across from the main one) request a room on the top floor. We were kept awake two nights by clomping footsteps above our heads.
- The hotel offers to bring complimentary coffee to rooms due to a lack of coffee makers, but it seems like a nuisance and requires gratuities. A coffee maker would be preferable. And be warned - if you order coffee with dinner, not only do they charge over $2, but they charge by the cup. What costs $7 with dinner (right next to the kitchen), would be free in your room!
- The hot tub was great to have but luke-warm of the first night, and never properly filled during our stay. It was functional, but at only 80% capacity.

I am very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. The pond down in the garden is indeed a beautiful spot. I go down there very often myself. I will make sure to take your suggestion, and to talk about this more often with our guests.
A few years ago, when we were considering including coffee makers in our rooms, we decided to instead provide a coffee delivery service. This decision was made in our efforts to provide higher quality coffee and service, and to be more environmentally friendly, not to spare costs.
Being a sustainable hotel, awarded 5 leaves in the CST certification program, we are constantly looking for ways to avoid waste. Coffee makers, as you know, require the use of disposable filters, and for sanitary reasons, also individual sugar and cream packets. Very often hotels also use disposable cups and spoons. We decided to avoid this by simply bringing our guests freshly brewed coffee to their room whenever they request it.
It is true that coffee during our lunch and dinner services is not complimentary. Since our coffee delivery service was conceived to replace an in-room amenity, it is an independent service from our restaurant that is managed separately. We will make sure to explain this more clearly in the future.
We appreciate your comments and we hope to see you at Hotel Belmar again soon.

Really nice facilities and grounds, but you can't beat sitting by a pool in the late afternoon after a busy day taking a tour, hiking or just wandering around. Nice large room with a great view. Very friendly and professional staff. Seemed like the owners set high standards and the staff worked hard to meet them. Restaurant staff very attentive, loved that they changed for dinner into shirts and ties from their polos at lunch time. Good food. Nice setting high up on the ridge with a view of the Nicoya peninslua and the Pacific (just).

We stayed here for 2 nights and were upgraded to the Canopy room which has a jacuzzi in the room (loved it!). The restaurant offers good food in combination with an amazing view: you see the pacific ocean from here. The hotel service is very good and friendly.

I really recommend this hotel!

Our family of five had a wonderful stay at Hotel Belmar for four nights in December 2012. Our rooms were cozy with very comfortable beds and gorgeous views, the breakfasts were delicious, and the happy hour drinks on the deck during sunset were heavenly. The staff was friendly and accommodating and helpful, but an extra special thank you goes to Elian at the front desk. Our son left his stuffed tiger at our previous hotel in Montezuma, which was about a four hour drive plus ferry ride away. When we told Elian, he called up the hotel, found the tiger, and arranged for a friend of his to take it to the ferry. Then another friend picked it up on the other end of the ferry ride and drove it all the way to Hotel Belmar. Tiger and boy were happily reunited, all thanks to Elian and his friends. Pura Vida, indeed!

We stayed out Hotel Belmar 3 nights during our honeymoon in November 2012. It was my favorite hotel of the 4 hotels we stayed in during our 12 day trip. The staff was super nice without going overboard, and we thought the food in the restaurant was delicious and fresh. The entire place is floor to ceiling wood and is beautiful. We stayed in a Peninsula Room and had a gorgeous view while being situated at the end of the hall in the original building. We did not have any problems with noise, it was very quiet all 3 nights. I loved that the room had no tv, a gorgeous view with unbelievable nightly sunsets, a giant jacuzzi bathtub (very important after days of hiking and adventure), and a very comfortable bed. I could have lived in the room forever. On top of all of this, the hotel offers free coffee service to your room for starting at like 6am everyday! We had many activities planned for our 3 days in Monteverde which we enjoyed, but honestly I would have been just as pleased spending all my time at Hotel Belmar. Maybe I was just worn out after days of hiking and traveling. Love this place!

Our room had a fantastic view, the staff - from the desk attendants, to the bartenders, to the wait staff - were all very friendly and accommodating, and the dining options were good. There is a nice little hiking trail next to the hotel. This hotel is nicely perched in the mountains. It is about a 20 minute walk from town, but cabs are abundant, and tour companies will pick you up here. This hotel was a highlight of our trip. We would stay here if we came back.

Beautiful, cozy room with spectacular sunset views from its balcony; fresh linens, very confortable bed! Delicious typical Costa Rican buffet breakfast every morning. Friendly service, great location. One of the best in Monteverde. Highly recommended! Don't miss it!

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony overlooking the gardens.
