Bajo del Tigre is situated in Monteverde and is approximately 29 hectares in size, although the property is surrounded by other forested properties in the zone. The type of forest found in Bajo del Tigre is rare and it is poorly represented in the country. This is because these forests were cut down to make way for coffee plantations and urban zones. Bajo del Tigre presents an altitudinal range from 1,020 to 1,380 meters above sea level and receives over 2,400 mm of rain annually. In this type of seasonal forest, the dry period extends from January through the beginning of May.Bajo del Tigre has a reception center for visitors and a gift shop with items related to our organization and conservation in general. In addition, next to the reception center is a "kids' house" oriented to environmental education for local kids. The main visitors of Bajo del Tigre are national and international students. However, it is being used more and more by ecotourists and occasionally by researchers. In Bajo del Tigre, there are about 4.4 km of trails that allow you to enjoy the unique flora and fauna of the area, as well as an excellent view of the sunset over the Nicoya Gulf. « less

hugely enthusiastic guide and we saw a sloth and lots of birds asleep as well as invertebrates and frogs. Lovely to be out at night - totally different experience

“Visit the fantastic forest and support the project”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

I really enjoyed learning about the fantastic project. When visiting Monteverde, make sure to visit Childrens' Eternal Rainforest. The area were the forest is located is beautiful and you are likely to see a lot of wildlife. Highly recommended!!

“Well worth the hike!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

The hike down into the Children's Eternal Rainforest was absolutely enchanting! The spider monkeys were quite entertaining, as well as the ever-changing views. But my favorite thing was the air. You can breathe so deeply and feel so refreshed.

“Largest Private Reserve in Central America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

This 55,000 acre private reserve straddles the continental divide and includes nine different types of habitats, like cloudforest, montane rainforest, and more. It is home to many endemic species of birds and frogs and many endangered plant and animal species. I have seen the barenecked umbrella bird there several times! Spider monkeys, a perched ornate hawk eagle, peccary, agouti, coati, curassow, guan, my species list is literally hundreds of names long! The Children's Eternal Rain Forest recently celebrated 25 years of responsible stewardship of this magnificent resource. Without it, Lake Arenal would dry up. The field stations within this forest are available for spending the night and provide a complete sensory immersion, impossible to experience in a more heavily visited forest like the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve.
