“Great Family Hotel, need to improve old part of hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We arrived on 6th August and stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel. We have 2 children aged 6 and 3 and overall the swimming pool and entertainment team are what makes this hotel. Firstly to start with the negatives. We had to wait over 1 hour to check in when we arrived. Kids were very tired and hungry but no food was available for them. Most of the guests are either German, Russian or Turkish. English is not commonly spoken so most of the staff don't really understand requests being made. The restuarant is ok but the food after a while is repetitive and the service is slow so be prepared to have your plates with your main dinner still on the table when eating dessert. It seems very strange that the new part of the hotel was updated but does not accommodate for families of 4 or more. We therefore had to stay in the old part of the hotel Royal Garden as opposed to Royal Select. The rooms really need modernising and are dated but are acceptable once you get used to the standard. Policy is ridiculous with regards to towels. You have to pay €1 for each time you want to change your swimming towel so be prepared for this. Aqua park slides are only open from 10-12 and 3-5 which is ok but would be more fun if they were open for longer. The beach is not fantastic with hard stones there are better beaches within a bus ride if beach is the main attraction but there are water sports on site. As an all inclusive guest drinks only available up to midnight but the only alcohol included is wine, beer, vodka and gin which was ok for us but be prepared to pay for cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. There is a games room but you have to pay for everything if you want to play games.
On the plus side the entertainment team were fantastic and made the evenings really enjoyable involving the audience and the children. The mini club is also very good and involves the children in all sorts of activities including t-shirt painting and mini olympics. The pool is great for children and adults. There are 4 swimming pools for the kids and also 2 main adult pools all within close distance from each other. The spa facility is also very good. Overall it was a good holiday not the best in terms of standards but certainly enjoyable for families with some good adult entertainment too!

Enjoyed our stay at Royal Gardens, very clean and staff are very helpful. Food was not too bad (although my husband didn't really like it) same most nights which consisted of rice, mashed potato, stews/goulash, chips, spag bol, salads etc and cakes.
Only went once to the restaurant at lunch time (as exactly the same as dinner) boys and hubby were more suited to hotdogs, burgers, chips and salad. I went for the roast chicken most days at the beach. Food finished at 9pm and nothing more was on offer until breakfast at 7am. Breakfast was always the same and you had to pay for freshly squeesed orange juice.

Entertainment lasted about 1hr per night which was alright. Mini club aimed at little ones, not suited for my 9&8yr olds and if it wasn't for the slides they'd be pretty bored, and these were only on at certain times!! Not much English going on, more aimed for Russians, Dutch and Germans. On our last day we went for lunch and our towels had been removed from our sunbeds at the kids pool and left on the grass, someone had taken our beds!! They are very rude and push their way forward at queues etc, even the kids do it!!

Ice cream only on offer at 3pm on a Wednesday, but there is a shop open at certain times which sell ice lollies etc.

Beach very good and very clean. Roast chicken on offer at the beach restaurant.
Rooms not too bad but a bit dated! I wish now we had asked to be moved to the other part of the hotel, but we are not ones to complain! There was a bit of a safety issue with the windows and patios...these are way too easy to open and the window opens wide to a straight drop below. We were on the 2nd floor, if we had been higher up we would have had to say something, so not good at all if you have young inquisitive children!!
Be careful as the maid tends to leave the window open and we didn't notice for the curtain and we were bit to bits by the mozzies!!

Drink was local drinks and as I don't like spiriits, I had the wine which was very nice and the occasional shandy, which was nice also. No cocktails on offer which would've been a nice wee change!

Overall we had a decent holiday for the cost, as we got a very good deal through Thomas Cook. Would we go back? Probably not, we have now booked a 5* Hotel in Lara Beach and looking forward to that (but much more expensive!)

Room Tip: Avoid a pool view room if you like to lie in....entertainment starts at 10am!

This complex has an old hotel, bit dated and gemanic style, a new hotel (called Royal Garden select - 5star very posh contemporary and modern) and an old annexe across the road.

We booked through Thomas cook and ended up in a room in the old hotel, a family suite with a living room and bedroom, arrived at night and was shocked that there was a huge window in the main bedroom about thigh height that opened very easily and dropped 5 stories onto concrete! Same in the living room where our two young children would sleep, two very low windows with very easily openable handles with straight drop to floor and a balcony door easily openable....so unsafe for children. If your children are inquisitive then this hotel is not safe. There are no locks on the windows/doors. Had a very stressful first night trying to get hold of someone from Thomas Cook to help.

Hotel moved us the next day to the 5star select hotel and this is totally different, modern and only a patio sliding door, much harder to open and a balcony with very high glass surround.

So once we were staying in the Select hotel our holiday was brilliant. The whole complex is spotless, the food fantastic, does not make you ill, very good hygiene, brilliant choice. Friendly staff. Rooms cleaned perfectly. New towels every day. Free drinks in fridge in room. Food all day. Breakfast, then pancakes mid morning, lunch, doughnuts afternoon, then cakes, the dinner. Free fruit juice all day/night, beer, spirits and fizzy drinks.

Pools very clean. Two huge ones. Two toddler ones. Two with 3 slides in each. Slides suitable from toddler to adult.

Views from hotel of mountains.

Plenty of entertainment if you wanted it. Kids disco, pool ice partys, free scuba in the pool, fun team games etc but this wasnt in your face if you just wanted to relax.

Select hotel quiet at night. Sea view rooms quietest. Old hotel very noisy. If you overlook the pool the entertainment goes on late/loud. But if you look the other way then its a nightclub through the night and when that finishes at 4am the mosque starts its very loud chanting!!!!!!!

We would go again but only to stay in the select unless they put locks on the windows/doors then we would stay in either hotel. The old hotel would be fine if you didnt have kids and dont mind a bit of old styling.

Mostly Germans and russians, staff cater mostly for them but we did not find this a huge problem. Lots of sunbeds so that was no bother.

Just bad from the Royal Garden Hotel and had a fab time. Certainly couldn't fault the hotel and it's facilities at all. The Staff were always very helpful and courtesy.
The Hotel itself is very spacious, rooms were clean and fresh and we had a Maid service in every day cleaning the room and giving us fresh towels. Beds were very comfortable too.
We were all inclusive, food was decent enough although with the clientele being mainly Russian and partially German and I would say the food was geared around them. Plenty of day time snacks too.
Two very big spacious swimming pools with some excellent slides to keep the kids amused and there is a lifeguard service on duty when the flumes are in action. The beach is a stone throw away but be very careful with the strength of the tide current especially with children. It's extremely powerful.
Only drawback was (and you can't really blame the hotel for this) but there is a nearby nightclub which is extremely loud and noisy and runs until at least 3am in the morning. You just get that out of the way then the local Mosque starts pumping out live prayers around 4am. If you keep your Air Conditioning on or are based on the inner side of the hotel then you maybe might not hear it. If you intend not to use your Air Con then I'd strongly recommend take ear plugs to drone out the noise. It kept me awake until after 4am every night. Apart from that I couldn't fault the place. A good leisure club is available free of charge and I would highly recommend the Spa & Turkish Bath Centre which was really enjoyable.
I was gutted to find the town of Konakli is actually a lot bigger than I had originally thought it was. A lot of shops and markets up by the Mosques.
On the whole I felt I definitely got value for money.

We stayed here June 3rd to 10th and were lucky enough to be booked into the new hotel with a room overlooking the pool area, there are 2 hotels on site. The accommodation could not be faulted, good sized room, flat screen tv, fridge which was filled with soft drinks and bottled water every day, good bathroom area with a great shower, plenty of hanging space with enough coathangers for our 7 day stay.
We mainly had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant in this building and always found something we liked to eat, the presentation of the food was first class and always enough waiters to take our drink order. We did go into the other restaurant but preferred the one in our hotel. We tended to have lunch outside at one of the bars.
The pool area was enjoyable and sunbeds were always available. There was a seperate area with the childrens pools and slides which was good for us. You paid a 10 euro deposit which enabled you to get a pool towel from the spa which you got back at the end of your stay when you handed the towel back. If you wanted to exchange it for a clean one you simply paid 1 euro.
As has been said before the huge majority of the guests appeared to be Russian or German but we didnt have any problem with this and certainly didnt experience any rudeness or arrogance as has been said by other reviewers. The only time I ever felt a little frustrated was with one of the female bartenders at the 'Blue Bar' who seemed to serve the other guests before any of the very few Brits who were there!!!
The hotel being on the beach was also a good plus, this meant it was so easy to go down to the sea without worrying about leaving any of your belongings lying around. We made good use of the beach bar as well, thats the beauty of all-inc, you dont worry about having cash with you to keep filling up your cold drinks through the day.
The entertainment at night was definitely a bit ropey and was something we were not too bothered about missing.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and got exactly what we were after, a really nice hotel on the beach with good food where we could relax by the pool and read our books to unwind from work. All the employees work hard to ensure that the hotel and all the grounds are kept immaculate at all times.
The only negative I can think of is that the mix of the guests may not appeal to everyone.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the new build hotel as it is extremely nice, modern and contemporary

We recently returned from The Royal Garden Hotel In Konakli. We stayed at this hotel from 13th to 20th June and as it had recently opened we had a fantastic time. I cannot praise the staff enough and the hotel itself is beautifully decorated with a standard of rooms which is excellent. There are two hotels on the site but we were lucky to have booked into the new one the food is excellent with a great variety of choice and the cleanliness of the hotel is superb. Special mention to the onsite hairdresser who is such a talented lady doing manicures, pedicures and hair for a very reasonable price used her 4 times!!. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Only downside is the entertainment which is poor.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent
