“Nice and chic hotel, good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2008

Stayed at the Sofitel Brussels Europe on a weekend and it was very quiet since the hotel is located near the business district. Love the hotel and the decor. It's very chic and clean. The business center/library is absolutely beautiful. The bulldog figures at the concierge is a very nice touch, so cute. The front desk reception were all very nice and helpful with very good English speaking skills. The parking lot at the front of the hotel turns into a market on Sunday morning. So you can get cheese, cold-cut and pastries for breakfast! The best thing is the fast food stall at the end of the parking lot where you can get their famous frites (french fries) almost anytime! There are also plenty of restaurants/cafes at the doorstep. There's even a supermarket if you want to get some water or toiletries. So it's quite convenient. The down side is that there's no shopping around the area. And it's not the closest walk to the metro station, about 7 mins. From the hotel, you are going uphill (not too bad). But in bad weather condition, it's not very pleasant.

Stayed 6 nights at the Sofitel Brussels Europe. Our Superior room was very large, by any standard, US or Europe. Bathroom with tub and shower also quite large. Bathrobe and slippers and mini-fridge in the room. The walk to the metro was pretty easy and there are several good restaurants on the square in front of the hotel.

We had breakfast several mornings at Vitel by the hotel, delicious and reasonably priced. Had the best pasta at Madonna also on the square. The hotel staff were very helpful and the daytime concierge was big help several times. I would not hesitate to stay here again should I return to Brussels.

  • Liked — The superior room was outstanding.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

Recently booked this hotel through SuperBreaks having stayed here before but got "bumped out" as they overbooked us in preference of business conference delegates.

This was outrageous as SuperBreaks have guaranteed allocation! The manager came out and *lied through his teeth* to us saying that all guests had checked-in at midday and that SuperBreak allocation is sold two weeks before arrival. The poor SuperBreak agent was furious, she spoke to them on the phone but couldn't do anything as they pretended not to understand her English (apparently a common trick).

Gave us no choice but to transfer to the noisy Sofitel Louisa. Worse than that we had to pay our own taxi costs back!

While the hotel facilities and rooms are nice, don't expect good service (particularly if you are British, see earlier post). Sofitel just don't care about you unless you're corporate.

My husband and I spent 1 week in this modern upscale hotel. We found the staff to be extremely professional, helpful, and dedicated to insuring that we had a pleasant stay. The rooms were as pictured on the Sofitel site, and larger than we expected. The bedding (down pillows, comforter, etc) was so comfortable, that one almost hated to leave the bed to go out and about. The nearest Metro station is only a few blocks, and the bus stops just across from the hotel. I would stay at this Sofitel should I return to Brussels.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2008

We spent 4 nights here (21st – 25th August 2008). On arrival we were allocated a smoking room (there does not appear to be a way of specifying and guaranteeing this request prior to arrival); but the check in guy was really helpful and upgraded us (at no charge) to the next room type which also happened to be no smoking. We had a room looking over the square; we were concerned that this may be noisy when the Sunday market started setting up; but we heard nothing. The room was large and had a very good sized bathroom with a separate bath and a walk in shower (which was excellent).

We had one issue around cleaning of our room not being carried out while we were out for the day; but this was resolved while we received a complimentary drink in the bar.

Overall the room (and hotel generally) was spotless and the facilities were very good. We did not eat at the hotel; but I do think that 25 Euro per person for breakfast is too much.

Would I stay again – definitely.

The Sofitel Europe is a brand spanking new hotel located near the European Parliament in Brussels, everything about it is modern sleek and designed. Its not so much in-your-face like boutique type hotels, there aren't any garish colours or funky proportioned furniture here, it's all very set back. Staff are consistently professional and happy to help.

The rooms include a very large flat panel television with a good range of international channels, coffee machine, fridge with complimentary mineral water. Bathroom includes extremely smart fixtures and fittings, and separate shower and large bath. Dressing gown and slippers are also a nice touch. Unfortunately wifi is not free in this hotel, which is surprising considering how expensive a room is - this seems to be common in hotels aimed at business customers.

Other features include a gym and turkish bath which looked good but we didnt get the chance to use. There is also a roof terrace, library, restaurant, and bar. We had breakfast one morning - a costly €25, but it's actually almost worth it. You can select from one of their cooked options, we had a fantastic scrambled eggs and bacon. To compliment it you can choose a wide range of buffet items, such as fruit, croissants, cold meats, juices, coffee and tea.

Location is very nice, set on a nice square a few metro stops out from the center of the city, lined with plenty of bars/restaurants, and hosts a market in the centre on Sunday. On the opposite side of the square there is the well known Maison Antoine, selling cones of fantastic Belgian fries and other fried foods to take away. All the locals buy their frites and take them to some of the nearby bars to enjoy with a beer - look out for the signs on some of the bars saying 'frites acceptes'.

Overall a very good place to stay in Brussels, highly recommended, if a little pricey.

The Sofitel Brussels Europe is located in near the European institutions, 4 stops on the Metro from central station.

We stayed on the 7th floor of the hotel where we enjoyed a large sized modern room with a nice view of the European Parliament. The in room facilities included espresso maker, complimentary water and a decent sized fridge, large flat screen tv and bathrobe and slippers provided.

The bathroom is of a good size with a two person bath. The window between the bedroom and bath is frosted and lets nice light into the bathroom. Nice quality shampoo and shower gel provided. Luxurious fittings and nice natural slate stone floor in the bathroom.

In the basement of the hotel is a decent sized gym with modern equipment as well as a hamman (Turkish bath), both which are free of charge.

We also dined in the restaurant of the hotel, Spuds. A bit of hit and miss, part of the meal very good others courses less memorable. Breakfast can be a bit steep (25 euro/person) unless included in weekend deal.

On Sundays there is a nice market in the square in front of hotel.

The 7th floor of the hotel has a nice roof terrace for sitting out.

Overall a great hotel, we will be staying here next time when we're in Brussels.
