“Great hotel, good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for a long weekend in Brussels at aloft. Location was ok, bus from airport drops you 5 minutes from the door. It is a slight walk out of the centre but not too horrific and there is a local metro stop as well as lots of busses.

Checkin was easy and the room was a lovely size, very light and airy. Walk in shower very nice, products good too. The bed was amazingly comfortable with lovely bedding and the room very quiet. Struggled with the tv somewhat, its painfully slow when you change up through the channels manually and there was no obvious channel list laying around.

We had the breakfast option and it was pretty good value with fresh tasty food. Would suggest using local supermarket for other needs as its significantly cheaper.

Bar really cool with a funky design and the drinks were well made with a good selection available and a split happy 2 for 1 hour from 6-6:30 and 8-8:30.

Overall had a great time and the hotel was great value for money, would definitely visit again.

Hi Leighp73,

How nice to read that you appreciated the overall hotel experience you had with us, both from a services as well as a facilities perspective. We are indeed located outside the old city center, but only a 20 minute walk or a short metro trip of only 3 stops will get you to the grand place so no big hassle.

We are aware of the TV issue and are trying to get this fixed or at least made quicker. Bare with us while we search for sollutions.

All in all, we're very happy that you wrote these comments and shared them with the TA world. Now - do make sure you come back of course!

Have an easy breezy day,

Booked this hotel for a last minute trip to Brussels due to good reviews on Booking.com and TripAdvisor. It's further out than I usually like to stay for city breaks, about 30-45 minutes walk from the heart of the city.

The hotel was easy to find and we managed to get a space in their car park (limited capacity). Parking was advertised at €25 per day with weekends a 'steal' at €15 euros. Checkin was quick and easy with friendly staff speaking fluent English. The lobby is bright and attractive with free use of Apple Macs for Internet access for guests.

I had an issue with my key card which wouldn't call the lift but worked for my room. I reported it to reception who said I must be doing something wrong and to try again, which didn't work. The receptionist cut another card which I still couldn't get to work. At this stage she got a bit impatient but did agree to try it herself, which didn't work either. She then said she knew what the problem was and cut a third card which did work. Not really anyone's fault but she could have been more polite and it was frustrating.

Room was a great size with large screen LCD or Plasma display and good selection of English language channels including BBC and CNN. I don't know if they offer movies as the menu system didn't work on my set - my colleague had intermittent success with his. Lovely walk in shower and reasonable range of toiletries. A couple of niggles with the shower are that while it really is a power shower the force is too much for the head holder to cope with so it kept turning from vertical and the door has no gap at the bottom so when you can't use the shower mat with it.

There was a safe but it didn't work for the duration of my visit. The hotel pushes the idea of an ecological day which you can opt into. It sounds good but instead of the usual keeping the same towels and bedclothes extends in this case to them not visiting your room at all, not even to make up beds or restock Tea / coffee. It probably does say that in the details but feels more like a way for the hotel to save money than any real ecological value.

There is complimentary wifi throughout the hotel which is always welcome.

While the hotel is some way from the old city centre I really did like the location. There's a lovely little park and lake just opposite (Parc Leopold) and it's a 5 minute walk to the Parlimentarium. In the other direction is a large park (Parc du Cinquantenaire) with a selection of museums, 5-10 minute walk.

On the corner opposite is a convenience store open from early to late evening. A short distance away behind Parc Leopold is a little square, Jourdanpleinin, with a good selection of restaurants and cafes. I can recommend Kin D on Rue General Leman which served good thai food and was friendly and welcoming.

The hotel is about equal distance from either Maelbeek or Schuman Metro stations on the 1 or 5 metro lines in the direction of Stockel or Hermann-Debroux from Central Station.

Checkout was a slight issue as they tried to charge €90 for the three night stay 3*25 + 1*15 although it clearly states in one place that car parking is charge per 24 hour period. The receptionist stated that as far as he was concerned it was for any part of the day. I asked to see the manager but was told they weren't around and that the receptionist was new. He said he'd charge just for the 3 days but that the manager might add the extra. Unfortunately when he tried to change it to the correct amount he said that It had already been put through when I checked in and he couldn't change it. It turned out that I was charged 3 days at full rate rather than part of the time at weekend rate. Not a huge difference but annoying none the less.

In summary a good hotel in a pleasant and convenient location just not quite as brilliant as it could have been with a little bit more attention to detail. On balance I would return to this hotel on future visits.

Hi Dagog,

Congratulations on writing the longest review I think we've every had since we opened in 2010! Wow - we really appreciate you taking the time and reflecting on so much detail. Also, the fact that you say you like us and would come back is a great compliment and really highly appreciated. Thanks every so much.

I won't respond to all your individual comments as overall they are spot on - only a few. The main point I would like to reply on is our commitment to be green. We indeed have a "make a green choice" program, by which one can decide to refuse housekeeping services for the day in return for a 5 euro voucher to spend at the Wxyz bar, re:fuel, exchange for SPG points or donate to Unicef.

This does however not mean that the normal hotel program of choosing to not have your towels replaced does not exist at Aloft - it does! There is marketing collateral in the room which explains that towels that are left on the floor will be changed and those hung up will not. It also explains that your room is cleaned with biodegradable products, etc.

Our average length of stay is 1.5 nights so many guests choose for the MAGC program because it is a win win situation for the environment, the guest and the hotel, however if you want to have your bed linen or towels cleaned we would be more than pleased to do so for you.

I look forward to having you back with us soon and once again for your extensive review.

Have an easy breezy day!

First holiday I was ever on that the hotel made the experience. From the moment we arrived staff were very helpful in showing how to use their new automated check in system. The room was spacious and modern. All floors had chill out areas with tea/coffee facility's, fridges, vending machines and plasma screen tvs. On the ground floor there was a bar, loads of pcs to surf the web, a pool table and a dedicated room for nintedo wii, great hotel. It's a small bit out from the centre of Brussels but don't let that deter you. There are city bikes outside the front door and its a short walk in.

We stayed four nights in this modern hotel with a very youthful vibe.
The rooms were large and comfortable with excellent lighting for reading and tasks.
Free internet was lovely. Had incentives for going green on room cleaning that
could be used for drinks or food. The staff was always helpful with information
and assisting you with using the hotel's offerings. The atmosphere was casual and
at the same time very efficient and organized. Excellent healthy food choicres available
at all hours on an ala carte basis. Comfortable lounge area with bar, TV screens and
upbeat sound track. Our first experience with the Aloft hotel chain. Would definitely
seek the chain out in other locations.Allowed us to check in at 10 am in the morning-no extra charge!

Hi sfdc_11!

Thank you so much for your great feedback. It is our goal to make the experience for all our guests as you describe in your review! We strive to have a no nonsense 'easy breezy' atmosphere in our hotel where you don't pay for services that many of use don't need. In other areas we just try to help our travellers to check-in early in case we have rooms available!

I wish you a great day,

This hotel was beautiful and modern, and the price was wonderful. Dog friendly (we wished we brought our dogs!) and very quiet. The location was very good: not in the center of the city but close enough that you can get there quickly.

The rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable, the sink was outside the bathroom which allowed my friend to get ready while I was showering, and we were provided plenty of amenities.

My only recommendation is to expand the food and drink options available to purchase in the lobby. They had a few things, but at the end of a busy day I was just looking for some yummy junk food, like doritos, instead of fancy baked air crisps or whatever they were lol. Those "nicer" options also meant they were a bit more expensive. Aside from that, this hotel was fantastic :)

Words can't express how AMAZING this hotel was. The cleanliness, the staff..perfect. Super close walk to the metro station which makes it easy to travel around the city. Free wifi. Modern feel. Had to study for exams and went to the lobby to study and it was super comfortable. Rooms were so comfortable and loved the bathrooms. Perfect hotel and wish more touristic cities had Aloft hotels. It was the 3rd time I spent a week-end at the Aloft. Huge rooms, brand new, very nice design and very comfortable (big bed, spacious shower and very long desk where you can put everything - so nice compared to tiny desk where you don't have enough space to put your purse and your shopping bags :)
I managed to sleep 10 to 12 hours per night, which doesn't happen to me a lot in hotels.

Best: 60 euros per night on the week-end,
Drawback: it is located at Rond Point Schuman Subway, so you're not in the center of the city but 3 stops away by subway.

Room Tip: I always prefer rooms on the top floor.
