“Great Value but some downsides”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I picked this hotel because it is so highly recommended on Tripadvisor. The centre is a short train journey away, but if you are going for the weekend then I would recommend staying in the centre. In the evening, the area is dead. We arrived late on the Friday and went in search for food but everything was closed. We then resorted to eating in the hotel, which had either sandwiches or a microwave pizza (don't expect anything fancy). The breakfast isn't anything great either. Also, in the evening there is only one or two staff members so it takes ages to get any help as a lot of people are checking in at this time.
The upsides are the price, near to the station and has some great gadgets (minus the hairdryer, I suggest bringing your own).

Hi Londontraveller82,

Aloft indeed has a 24 hour grab & go called re:fuel, where we offer daily made fresh salads, sandwiches, desserts, soups, quiche, pizzas and much much more. We do fully accept that this is not your typical a la carte sit down restaurant, but experience learns that the in the know traveller now adays prefers discovering the local restaurant treasures. It then also surprises me that you did not find any place to eat - our local area has so many nice places! Did you ask our front desk for some recommendations or guidance? They would have loved to point you towards some lovely little gems.

The area directly around the hotel is indeed quiet - but we do not think that's a bad thing... at least that allows us to guarantee you a great night sleep! :-) Less then 100 m away from the hotel you can find the Jourdan square or alternatively the Luxumbourg square which are both very buzzy and a famous hang-outs for locals and eurocrats.

Anyways, we do hope you will find the time to come back - there is much to offer!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

We stayed in the Aloft Hotel in November. It's a modern and innovative hotel and is great for travellers on a budget.

Situated around a 2 minute walk from one of the main suburban metro stops it's easy to get in and out of the centre of Brussels - only 1 or 2 stops to Brussels Centraal station all of the big tourist attractions. Being out of the centre means that there is a significant price difference, but this hotel is not too far out to be an annoyance.

The room we had was spacious and comfortable. It was very well designed to be as economically friendly as possible and to make the most of the space they had to work with. The bed's headboard acted as a separating wall from the bathroom, for example, and the shower and toilet were concealed behind a huge wall-mirror door.

All was clean and well-maintained (though we didn't have a working hairdryer, but I'm sure if we had asked for a new one it would have been supplied).

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Check-in was easy and when we mentioned that we had forgotten to bring a European plug adapter with us they were able to lend us one.

The only downside to this hotel is that the rooms did feel a little cold and impersonal, and at the time of year that we went the place was largely empty so we did not want to go and sit in the bar or cafe by ourselves!

Nevertheless, would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Brussels.

Hi Karen O,

Thanks very much for taking the time to write this review. The hotel is indeed very conveniently located, just outside the old city center. It will take you 20-30 minutes by foot, or alternatively 3 metro stops from Maelbeek Metro Statiion (150m from the hotel). That means you can be standing on the Grand Place within 15 minutes, door to door!

So sorry your hairdryer was not working. We would have loved to fix it or switch it over for a new one of course. Rest assure we've taken your comment on board and made it working again for other guests.

It seems you had a great time with us - hopefully that means you will be back sooon!

Have an easy breezy day.

I love this hotel in the Schuman district. It is cool but comfortable and clean. The most comfortable beds in any hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are modern and functional with massive beds and very large screen tvs. Breakfast is self serve and reasonable for Brussels. The staff are friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back again.

Hi jsgi,

Indeed our beds are super comfortable, aren't they?! They were especially developed and custom made for Aloft by Simmons. It's a 30cm thick mattress with top layer so its nice and soft, yet gives you plenty of support. Makes you not want to get out of bed in the morning!

It's great to read that you enjoy staying with us. Hopefully you will be back with us soon!

Have an easy breezy day.

It's a nice, new and modern hotel, located in a nice, central area, next to the european buildings and the Schuman metro station, from where you can reach Central Station in 5 min. 2 markets are also near the hotel. The rooms are spacious, with a modern business design, although a little to dark in my opinion. The staff is all young (students i think) and very nice. A little unusual, but most welcome thing, which we didn't find in any other hotel before:you can decline the daily cleaning in exchange for 5 euros/day, which you can use for example for the breakfast. Also, for the breakfast they have an unusual way of setting the prices: 3 items for 6 euros or 5 items for 10 euros. One item can be for ex a coffee/tea or ham+cheese+bred or a croissant+butter+marmelade, so with 6 euros you can eat quite a rich breakfast.

Hi Simona O,

Thanks very much for taking the time to write your review and share it with the rest of the tripadvisor world. We're glad to see you liked us!

We indeed have a very young and dynamic team of talents who are eager to make you have a good time - glad you noticed. Most competitor hotels charge you a fixed fee of 20-35(!) euro's for a buffet breakfast, regardless of how much you will have. Most of the time that turns out to be an expensive coffee and croissant for you. That's why we decided to create a handy 6 and 10 euro package which gives almost everybody enough to kick-start the day.

Looking forward to having you back soon.

Have an easy breezy day.

Hi MallikaB,

Excellent stuff! Super that you liked the room and enjoyed some of the tech savvy features that we offer. We are indeed very close to the city center - only 3 metro stops and you are in the central station. In not more than 20 minutes you could stand on the Grand Place.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to write this review and I look forward to seeing you back.

I stayed here for 6 nights on 2 occasions in Jan 2013 while on business. Its very conveniently located near the EU Institutions. The rooms are nicely presented with a useful work-space and free wifi. Bed was comfortable and spacious. Tea 'n' coffee facilities are provided in the rooms which have an iron and board. My room at the rear was very quiet.
The TV service was a bit patchy, switching itself off every now and then. The breakfast is just about adequate and is eaten in the large foyer area. The foyer area deserves some mention; it contains a bar, table football and pool table plus a large screen for playing Wii games - a bit like a youth club.
Aloft does not have a traditional room service. Sandwiches and the like are available for purchase in the foyer area at night. The self service check-out works very well.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms should prove quieter

Hi CaoimhinON,

We can tell from your review that you are an experienced Aloft visitor - you mention quite a wide selection of our facilities. Thanks for telling the rest of the online world about us in such a positive way.

The concept aims indeed to offer a very comfortable room to work, live and sleep from and a public area that is there to entertain, mix, meet and mingle with others. By the sound of it, this is exactly what it did for you.

Have an easy breezy day.

Stayed here from the 30th Dec- 1st Jan, it is a bit outside the city but the metro is close by and very frequent, my room was spacious, immaculate and the bed was very comfortable and quiet. I never heard a sound from any other guests and the hotel was fully booked, All staff that I met were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hi sambam24,

Now those are some great comments about us - thank you!!

Aloft is indeed located just outside the city center, in the heart of the EU district. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the old city center or alternatively you can take the metro for only 3 stops till the central station. From there it is a 3 minute walk onto the Grand Place.

We are delighted to read that you enjoyed the look, feel, facilities and services in the hotel. Looking forward to seeing you back soon!

Have an easy breezy day.
