“Very comfortable but limited food choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

I arrived quite late at night and was looking forward to a good meal - all that was available was chilled food in the cabinet. It was tasty and cheap, but didn't really hit the spot. Breakfast was the same, three items for six euros. The rooms are supremely comfortable, especially the bed. Would have liked the choice of caffeinated coffee in room. We experienced a power cut in the morning, that meant a walk down five flights of stairs by the light of my phone. The staff were extremely helpful though and made me feel very welcome.

Hi spml13,

So sorry to hear that you were inconvenienced by the power cut. It hit the entire city block in which the hotel was located. Luckily we were able to bring our operation back to normal within 30 minutes, however we do understand that carrying your suitcase down the emergency staircase is far from convenient.... once again our apologies.

Knowing that the vast majority of our guests eat outdoors whilst staying with us, we have deliberately chosen for a 24/7 grab & go concept with fresh salads, sandwiches, pastas, desserts, etc. Did you know we also sell some very good pizza's? Our local area has a very large offering of a la carte restaurants if you fancy that instead; our front desk team has some excellent recommendations for you.

Our 6 and 10 euro breakfast packages make us one of the cheapest in town, however we don't compromise on the quality of croissants, freshly baked bread, cut fruit and over 80% of the products that you would find on any other hotel breakfast. Only there you would pay between 20 and 37.50 (!).

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience and we do hope you will be back with us soon.

Have an easy breezy day.

I am in Brussels on business almost every week and I love this place.

The hotel itself is new and is located next to the park on Place Jean Rey in the Shuman district of the city which is within walking distance of the EU and a a couple of nice squares surrounded by restaurants. It not in the heart of the city but that has advantages such as the fact that it is normally possible park in the streets around the hotel.

The reception area is hip and trendy. Think polished concrete floors and exposed pipework in the ceilings. It extends back through a lounge and bar area with pool table and a big glass wall looking in to the Wii playroom.

There is a self serve breakfast area (breakfast costs €5-€10 which is the cheapest in the city) which also offers light snacks (sandwiches, drinks etc) throughout the day. There is also a convenience store (which is open something like 8am-8pm) just across the road.

The rooms are modern and have a large plasma screen TV, wi-fi etc etc

But the best bit is the staff. Brussels can be quite a cold city but the staff here are warm and friendly. One night I sat at the bar and practiced a little Spanish with the receptionist. On another evening I swapped stories about Latin America with the barman.

Admittedly Aloft it doesn't have all the trappings of a five star hotel but I don't need that when I am on business. I just need somewhere comfortable to unwind when I get back from a hard day at the office.

Brussels is an expensive city, and now that the EU is back in session, the weekday rates are a little pricey (I was able to stay here over the summer for as little as Eur 46.90 per night!) but there are some good weekend deals. Enjoy!

Room Tip: A few of the rooms look in on each other over a triangular courtyard - ask for another!

Hi Adventura1405,

You review is spot on - thank you!
The comments you made exactly describe what we believe makes Aloft a great place to stay as well. Indeed, I'm personally very proud of our staff who seem to be able to impress our guests over and over again. On top of that we have a fresh look & feel and, important, everything works.

We highly appreciate you taking the time to review us and sharing your opinion with the rest of the tripadvisor world. We hope many will follow.

Hope to have you back with us soon again.

I booked a room through Priceline for a few nights in September 2012. Excellent value. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is free wifi throughout the hotel. The food offered at the property is overpriced and pretty limited. However, there is a grocery store just 75 meters away from the property.

This hotel was very inexpensive and the bed was very comfortable. The room was not cleaned (until we complained in the evening) once and at about 6PM once. We stayed for a week, but I expect most stay for only a day or two because there are no shelves or draws in the rooms and only room to hang up a few garments. The oldest employee seemed to be in their twenties and the hotel seemed to run accordingly.

Now the good news: Free internet, a free fooseball table, a free pool table, etc. make this a fine hotel for those looking for the Ikea version of a "W" hotel (especially if you are young, not too pickuy, etc.). The location is not in the center of Brussels, but a few metro stops away.

So this is a mixed bag and while it didn't meet our expectations of a well run hotel, I guess it was worth the low price and was not terrible either.

Hi Ormont,

Thanks for writing your review and sharing your experience with the world of Tripadvisor - highly appreciated! Indeed, the average length of stay at Aloft is 1.5 nights hence your comments are correct. We do have some rooms with larger storage space facilities as well which we try and allocate to extended stay guests wherever possible - so sorry we could not do so at this time.

Not sure I understand your comments about our young and dynamic team - they seem somewhat pessimistic even though they generally stand in high regard for their service, welcome and can do attitude by most other reviewers. So sorry to hear you do not share this view.

We are of course delighted to hear you appreciated all the free service and facilities offered and hope you enjoyed using them.

Thanks very much once again and wishing you an easy breezy day!

Really enjoyed the stay in the Aloft Brussels Schuman. The room was spacious and the Shower was modern and stylish. Best of all was the bed which was really comfortable and allowed us to have a relaxing nights sleep. We paid approximatey £50 for a double room for one night. An absolute bargain.

I was hre mid september as I managed to find a very good offer, as the "official" price is quite high..The hotel is close to the metro station (Schumann) confortable and clean, even if a bit too "technological" for my taste, anyway the room and bathroom are huge, with trendy magazines, coffee/tea facilities (and you will find a nice small supermarket nearby) the bar/lounge is pleasant and confortable, the staff very young and kind..

Hi abigaille,

Style at a steal - translated as a great hotel for a reasonable price is one of Aloft's key taglines. We are no different in that you very often find good deals and excellent value for money. It seems you have certainly found one!

Glad you liked the design, location, service and facilities offered and we hope you will return at some point in the future.

Have an easy breezy day!

A step away from the EU Comission headquarters, a really nice hotel, easy to use, with lots of hotspots and a wonderfull wifi connection almost everywere. Though functional the managers played best of themselves to add value and speed up check-in/check-out process. Very helpfull and kind.

Hi Vengadora,

Although the Aloft concepts tries to move as many of the typical hotel transactions towards the guest himself, and thereby giving more control over one's stay, it is excellent to see that we don't fail on giving personal service and attention. Thanks very much for sharing this as wel will certainly pass your comments onto our team of talents.

Our free wifi is of superb quality - we have a 20 Meg pipe! :-) thanks for highlighting this service to the other Tripadvisor users.

Have an easy breezy day!
