I stayed here for two nights in the hostel part of the hotel, which is located a few doors further down the street from the hotel. The first thing I noticed which was odd is that I didn't get a key. Instead I had to ask at reception in the hotel to be escorted to the hostel by a rather unpleasant man. He let me in then departed, and I had to go through this process each time I left and returned. As the area of Brussels itself is rather run down and feels kind of unsafe, I can see this could be an issue for solo female travelers.
The hostel itself had two segregated dorms for men and women on the ground and first floors of a large building; huge rooms with strange, creepy pictures on the walls. I must say the atmosphere there was not pleasant.
The men's dorm contained between 20 and 30 beds, both bunk and single, which were crammed into it. They clearly wanted as much revenue as they could get. Thankfully during my stay there was just one other guest, and he went on the other side of the large partition between my half of the room and his. If it had been full to capacity it would have been awful. There were no recreational areas, no food available, and sleep was interrupted by the continual beeping of the security system all night; very annoying!
There were no lockers that I could see so I had to carry my valuables with me each day.
Any plus points? Well, it was cheap; you get what you pay for I suppose, and it was reasonably clean.
