“Good greek food on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

This harming restaurant is located on the small beach in the village with an amazing sunset. The food was really good and simple greek food. I can recommend the Moussaka and garlic cod croquettes.

“Small restaurant on the beach facing the sunset”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Just outside the more restaurant-crowded port area, 50-100 m after the small peninsula for the Agiou Spyriton church, you'll find this small restaurant (blue windows and blue umbrellas on the beach).
The tables are on the beach, barely a couple of metres from the sea.
All the appetisers are excellent. the eggplant salade appears to be done with grilled eggplants, a special flavour. My favourite were the fried zucchini, a light batter covering the zucchini, perfectly fried.
The fish is especially good, and perfectly grilled with a mouth-watering olive oil-lemon-oreganon sauce.
We went there the first night in Elafonisos and ended up going there every evening, always pleased with our dinners!
Definitely the place to dinner while in Elafonisos!

“Simple foods prepared expertly on a peaceful small island in Greece”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Who could ask for more? O Boukas is a new taverna/ouzeri located on the tiny island of Elafonisos, located off the south eastern "finger" of the Peloponnesus in Greece. One reaches the island by a small car ferry from the harbor of Pounta, 7 km. east of Neapolis. There is only one small village on the island, located at the harbor, and a car is not needed unless you wish to drive to one of the beautiful beaches a few km. away. Many tavernas line the picturesque harbor, but if you want a delicious, beautifully prepared, simple meal, one that is truly representative of Greece, I recommend going to O Boukas. It was the best meal I had on this trip to Greece and one of the best I have ever had in Greece, combining all my trips together. It is not a fancy gourmet affair. It is simple, expertly prepared food and shows what can be done by a knowledgeable chef with fresh ingredients. Yes, young Mr. Boukas was trained at the Culinary Academy of Greece, on the campus in Galixidi and it shows. The taverna is a family-run business. His father is the waiter, and I tasted the best eggplant salad there of any I have ever had - and I ordered it almost daily in my travels. His cod fillets with skordalia (garlic sauce) were stellar. The warm fresh break was also made by Mr. Boukas. The taverna has inside tables but on a sunny day I could not imagine sitting inside when I had the choice of sitting under a large royal blue umbrella, ON the beach, looking out at the crystal clear blue-green water, the color of which was reminiscent of parts of the Caribbean. Gorgeous! Across the water is the mainland of the Peloponnesus. His house wine (I had white) was light, herbal and delicious. Good quality. I do not exaggerate when I say his meal was the most memorable of all I ate in Greece this trip. I hope his taverna does well. It is past the harbor so some tourists may not walk past those tavernas. However, if you do, you are in for a treat. If you are fortunate enough to go to Elafonisos, after disembarking the ferry, walk right, passing the harbor and those tavernas, and continue as the street turns left. Look for the big blue umbrellas on the beach and the taverna is directly across the street from them. I'd return in a heartbeat.
