We've just returned from a three night stay at this lovely family-oriented resort-style campground. Reservations are not accepted for unserviced sites but even though we arrived late morning on the Saturday of the holiday weekend we had plenty of spaces to choose from. There are also not really any set spaces for tent camping. There are picnic tables and fire pits spaced out throughout the tenting area but we were told we could drag them to any open spot we choose and set up there. We snagged a really private spot down a hill from the road in the curve of trees from a slight ravine. We had privacy when we wanted it or we could walk up the road towards the R.V. serviced sites (you must book these in advance) and feel as though we were part of a friendly little town.
The amenities were plentiful, with a huge pool that included two slides, a diving area, a wading section and lake-style gradual sloping concrete all around the "shore" as the deep section is in the centre. There is also a fantastic splash pad for the eight-and-under set. My 26-month-old had a great time splashing away and going down the slide in the centre of it all. There is a pool-side BBQ behind the splash pad and a snack bar/arcade/store across the path/street from the pool. We didn't eat at the BBQ but we did indulge in a basket of chips from the snack bar ($2.39) and the very reasonable priced ice-cream cones, $1.00 kiddie size (which is really a one-scoop), $2.00 one-scoop (which is really two-scoop) and $3.00 two-scoop (which is huge!) The snacks are a reasonable price but of course they do get you on the bags of firewood ($8.00 ea) and bags of ice ($3.00 ea or 4 for $10.00).
There is a large playground behind this area as well featuring a large "Nessie" playing in the middle of it all. Next to it is mini-golf ($5.00 a person) and pedal boats (free). There is also a sand volleyball court, bocce ball, baseball diamond, tennis court, horseshoes and basketball court all included in the price.
There are free organized kids activities once per day as well as included events for the whole family. While we were there, there was a horseshoe tournament, a dance and family bingo complete with a 50/50 draw.
Back towards where we were camped there was a natural pond with some lovely ducks and a dock for fishing. We witnessed a young girl get the first catch of her life and the excitement was contagious. Caution must be used along this path with young children as there is a sharp ravine behind the bushes on one side and the pond on the other. There is an abundance of hiking trails in the bush but enough paths through the park to take nice long walks with a stroller as well. Just be prepared to push uphill through gravel in some sections.
All in all this had everything we were looking for. A natural tenting site complete with fireflies and the friendliest little raccoon I've ever seen (we named him Charlie), the sound of ducks lulling us to sleep (or keeping us awake in my husbands case), a short walk to conveniences and to top it off the cleanest, nicest smelling bathrooms I have ever seen at any campground or pool (with clean $1.00 showers).
Keep in mind it is a family oriented campground. You must be a family or 25 and over to camp there. We paid $195 for the three nights because it was a holiday weekend, about the same price as one night in a hotel with the same amenities.
Also note that it's roughly a 20 minute drive to Niagara Falls, a nice day trip.
