“Average hotel but good on the pocket”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Considering the price of hotels in Melbourne, this really is good value for money. The hotel is average but I really was happy with our stay here for 7 nights. Tram stop right outside hotel on the corner for no.8 and on the other side of that is the tram stop on Sydney Rd for no.19. Both take you to CBD in 30-40mins, depending on traffic. It has a daily cleaning service, tea/coffee, kettle and you can ask for toaster and microwave. Decor is older and furniture dated. You won't be blown away by the hotel but you will be comfortable. The wifi is a little slow and if you are near an entrance there are some noisy night owls who seem to be ignorant to others, but then that could be anywhere. Overall, you get what you pay for here. Therefore, I was pleased with my stay and would stay again.

Room was nice, as we were a family it was great to have cups and saucers, toaster, microwave and kettle but there were no bowls / plates / cutlery which made for interesting breakfasts. Brilliant meal at the Moreland Hotel.

The Dolma is positioned close to Sydney road where you will find some great shopping and good restaurants. It is convenient for using public transport. Take the number 8 tram from right outside the hotel straight into the city passing down Lygon st. Alternatively you can catch a train just a short walk away straight into the city from Moreland station. Just remember to have a Myki which you can get from just around the corner on Sydney road. The rooms are small but clean and it has always been lovely and quiet there. The staff are always friendly and there is a great cafe on the corner called Julianns whee you can get an $8.00 breakfast which includes toast, bacon, eggs, coffee and juice.

It is very convinence, not far from public transporation route, just about 100 meter walk to tramp and train stop. From stop no 28 straight to CBD, one straight journey. Staff very helpful and friendly. Environment is safe and quite for good nite sleep.

Compact rooms, well presented. Quiet establishment, even on a Saturday night. Good value for money. Would stay again. Not ideal if you plan to spend a long time in the room, as they are pretty small - but, I just needed a bed to sleep so it was good for me

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

This is a top rating for value, not a five star hotel.

I have stayed here five times and the owner-manager Alvin (born in Fujian province, China) quickly asked me this week if I noticed improvements. There has indeed been improvement. Room decoration very good, all utilities work well (deluxe double). Bedding excellent. Wide TV, good fridge, electric kettle – but no toaster, no microwave. Cleaning standards are very high. Bathroom good.

The location remains excellent, tram routes and train within a few metres, to reach the city or beyond. Myki cards http://www.myki.com.au/ for public tranport sold at reception and you can add top up funds for the Myki card at the station or post office round the corner.

Around the corner to excellent food. The neartest fruit and veg shop Italian, the Foodworks near it very Italian as well as English speaking.

Down two short blocks on Sydney Rd to a new cafe-restaurant, PROV, the proprietor-chef from Bari in southeastern Italy. One of several brilliant breakfast options within short walk. Abundant Turkish, Indian. The restaurant at Dolma is Nepalese but we have not tried it or the breakfast offered by hotel, preferring local cafe options + items brought to room from local stores.

$38 taxi from airport late night, light traffic (half way to city: to take the airport bus to the city would be $17 each). We had considered renting a car for a week here, but with family coming to pick us up a couple of times, for the rest it's a great pleasure to travel on the good public transport options.

Good parking space, no charge. Easy for visitors to park outside on street during week and we gave daughter's car number (happily received, we did not have own car to park) so she could park on site.

Compare any hotel in the city and add $20 or more for parking there.

This property provides good quality basic needs for travellers who want to get out or want to sleep in, who have time for local travel through interesting areas of Melbourne and who do not want to strut in a fancy foyer.

Room Tip: We asked for a comfortable room for a long stay and were given a deluxe double at the rear, downstai...

Booked this late for the Grand Prix so I didn't have much choice. This was a basic B & B with comfortable bed and required facilities. Free wifi useful. Choice of two trams for access to the city. It took us usually 30 minutes to get to the city. Would really prefer to be in the city if I go to Melbourne again.
