Owner description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

“You must visit this castle and gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Do not drive past when travelling north. Blair castle and gardens are definitely worth stopping at when in this wonderful part of Scotland. I would advise that you go round with one of the tour guides as they really know their stuff One of the highlights is the excellent, modern, cafe and restaurant which provides high quality good value food.

“Delightful Castle & Gardenns”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This is really worth visiting both for the amazing house and the beautiful, extensive garden and grounds. 2-3 hours is the minimum I'd recommend for a visit, but you could spend all day here if it's dry. Only disappointment was stale scones at the coffee shop.

“Very Smart and Professional Operation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

The whole Blair Castle experience is one of a lavish and well presented exhibition of a castle over the ages, but heavily influenced by the Victorian period, probably as Balmoral. As such it is difficult to see it as a home. It is expensive to visit, particularly if you use the restaurant but given the amount of rooms, and the contents, is probably worth the money. The gardens are very well laid out and the Hercules Garden is probably missed by many as it's a short walk away through a tree lined avenue but is the best part of the grounds. Best to avoid it during busy times as there are many coach trips there and if you arrive at the same time as a tour party it would be a congested.
