“As good as ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

needed to feed two friends who called on me Saturday 21st September, we made our way to the Royal Oak at Great Ayton and I am pleased we did, two of us chose poached salmon with lobster sauce the other was a regular fish and chips, well done guys you are up their with all the other greats in our area it was delightful, the service led by the boss (Simon) was so warm and natural, Simon your front of house staff are a credit to you, the "afternoon tea" menu also looked very interesting also.

Look forward to a return visit soon.

“Huge mixed grill!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

A warm and welcoming pub. Old Peculiar on draught was lovely, and had the mixed grill which was delicious but so large that I couldn't finish it! Highly recommended.

“Oaky Sunday dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

I should have ordered the roast special and skipped the salmon salad which was bland. Good service. But crowded. Goof service though.

“Horrible food.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Went for lunch with the wife, mother in law and her partner. Ordered the fish and chips and scampi. I have to say they were the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The fish was all skin and bones, lucky if I got three forks full of fish, the batter was so thin you could hardly see it, and the chips well they were really scrappy, I think the biggest one in the dish was no more than an inch long. My wife had the scampi and she said it was bland and tasteless. The drinks were very costly, £4 for a cider is ridiculous. The only positive the staff were very friendly and cheerful, maybe because they were getting money for old rope. This is one place that I have no intention of ever visiting again , it was absolutely disgusting.
