“A fantastic experience and great hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Having moved to Newcastle for my new work venture in March I chose to stay at the stables lodge for the first week. Having had the choice of the finest hotels and B & B’s I definitely hit the jackpot with the stables lodge and 15 weeks later 4 nights a week I could not ask for more. The choice of rooms and lodges are first class and the breakfast is second to none.

The stables lodge is definitely worth 5 stars and both Janet and Gary make the whole stay a pleasure (not forgetting domino the cat). I would recommend the stables lodge to anyone looking for a great romantic location at weekends or business travellers who welcome a home from home experience with all the usual luxuries expected when away on business.

The location is semi rural with country pubs and great restaurants within minutes and Newcastle is only a short car or taxi ride away.

Plenty of good golf courses within five minutes

Thank you Janet and Gary for such a nice and pleasant stay and good North East hospitality

The Stables Lodge is a very nice relaxful B&B. Janet and Gary were very helpful and made our stay wonderful and relaxing.

We stayed in the Red room, the bed was very comfy and it was lovely having a settee area, and a small table near the window.

The welcome was friendly especially the bottle of rose which was included with the room. However we was asked several times within a few minutes of arriving if we wanted breakfast in our room. In which we did agree to and it was nice having that option and we could text our breakfast request and had a reply when she got the message. The breakfast was very nice, even though it took a little while to come to the room but it was freshly cooked. very much worth the wait.

The bathroom was well equipped especially the shower, sauna and spa bath was brilliant.

In regards to the temperature of the room it was hot, and you could hear noises of other guests.
We also thought it was odd having a tv and video recording equipment in the closet but they have to put cctv equipment somewhere.

Other than a few niggles it was a very nice friendly b&b and we would stay again if we was in the area and we would recommend the B&B.

There is a nice pub which is a short country lane walk away for food and drink .

Room Tip: The red room is a very lovely room.

It's located perfectly in a rural setting with easy access to the A1 getting you into the city or equally if you want venture into the countryside. You far enough away from the motorway and suburbs not to suffer the related noise intrusion... Even with open windows.

We had a very warm welcome in this tastefully decorated converted barn. The Red room was great with everything you would expect from a characterful property like this. All the facilities were luxurious with from the large TV with the full Sky package, lovely sitting area where you could watch TV or read, the private sauna, large bath room with bubble bath. You also have access to a lovely garden where you can sit and soak up the sun (the UK weather permitting)

We enjoyed a good nights rest and had a great choice with breakfast. It should keep even the fussiest of us happy.

The owners are wonderfully social people who clearly love and take great pride in there business. We look forward to the next time we are in the area to stay with them again.

When we saw all of these unbelievable comments we had to stay there! We must be odd balls as we rated the place at best very ordinary.(sorry)
We had booked three nights in the tartan room, on arrival we were given the "welcome" chat for an hour! we were then told we would be upgraded to the red room free of charge for the next two nights, we thought that was odd,( but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.) Our wonderful hosts showed us around the red room as the guest in there had gone out, (we felt a bit uneasy about that.)
The Tartan room was very nice, but had a couple of faults, first thing was the bathroom was built into a cupboard, it was very narrow, when you bent over the sink your posterior touched the double door, the toilet was very noisy and because my wife has limited mobility she could not get into the shower as the door would not open wide enough. The room temp. was very hot, we turned the radiators off, but it was still unbelievably hot, we had to force open a window and were not able to sleep because of it. The T.V. was difficult to watch from the bed as it was in a recess and facing the far wall, the gentleman staying in the red room returned, and we could hear him walking around, we could hear him coughing he sounded as if he was in our room, we turned the T.V. off and spoke in whispers, otherwise no problems, and we are not complaining as we are being upgraded!!
The next night we were in the fab "Red Room" it looked great, a very seductive area, there was a large flat screen T.V. loads of DVD's full unscrambled sky package, including the "Adult" channel. It seemed perfect, but there were a few minor problems, the first one was the sloping walls and ceiling are painted red, which results in you constantly bumping your head, as you loose your perception of depth. I see no one else mentioned this as a problem, so it must just be us.
There was a very ornate bed with decorative ropes hanging down on each side, A small room to the left of the bed contained a fridge with complimentary water, there was also some sort of automatic video recording equipment, probably something to do with the CCTV I would imagine.
There was a very nice double bath, sauna and shower. We too were advised not to go out and eat, but to stay in and enjoy an intimate evening with a takeaway Our wonderful hosts even gave us a free bottle of wine. Sounded very sexy and tempting but we declined. Even though there was no one staying in the room next to us we could hear movement and noises coming from there. The Red room too was extremely hot.
The breakfast menu was one of the best I've ever seen, the actual breakfast was very nice but very ordinary. We were extremely lucky at breakfast, as everyone normally sits around a large kitchen table - forcing small talk amongst total strangers - but there were no other guests, great.
If you are a very sociable person, and don't mind being overheard, like it very warm, and want the bed and breakfast experience this is the place for you. We left early, its not for us.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the red room if its free you will be upgraded!!

Wonderful spacious room, with its own sauna. The owners wonderfully hospitable. Felt at home immediately. Although it is very quiet and rural, it's only a few miles out of the city. Will definitely stay again next time we're in the Newcastle area.

Both Janet and Gary were fantastic hosts, very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The Red room was stunning and immaculate, with everything we could possibly want. Based on Janet’s advice, we decided to order take-away and stay in, rather then travel into Newcastle - so glad we did. The spa bath was CG’s favourite feature – she spent ages in it, I had difficulty convincing her to get out! There was a great choice for breakfast, the Light English in particular was scrumptious. If you visit the area, we would highly recommend booking there.

Thanks for the wonderful stay!
