“Minimal service rooms are available”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

I am staying here for a few weeks on business. I'm not sure if all rooms are like mine - kitchenette and no housekeeping. It would be nice if they came in once a week, though. Other than that the place is OK - restaurants on site are good but slow down a lot when busy. The burger bar offers giant hamburgers! I am in the low-rise section and in a north-facing room (only a parking lot view). The room is cool and quiet.

Very nice place directly at the beach. Somekind worn apartments but functional.Kitchen is well equipped. Recommendable not only during summer but also when there might be bad weather due to a plenty of indoor activieties, restaurants, etc. ... Beach & water is very clean.

The location of the hotel is top. Only from the outside it does not match quite with the landscape. being the biggest hotel in fehmarn especially in summer it is packed with families and their little kids. the beach is right in front of the hotel and it is purely for beach holiday. The apartment itself is equipped with a pantry kitchen and sufficient for basic cooking. Burg the capital is only 5minutes away and offers plenty of restaurants.
the staff at the hotel is not the friendlist and they charge you everything extra - toilet in the lobby and map of the island. there is a tourist information opposite the hotel which offers everything for free. be aware that you are only allowed to use the vitamar pool when staying in the vitamar building as they charged us extra which they did not advise upon booking. Unusual also is that they charge everything upon arrival and no passport was needed.
in terms of acitivities do they have a bike rental station right in front of the hotel whcih is great and very friendly. doesnt take you long to explore the island by bike.
overall the hotel is great for a week break for small families and group of people but you need to have a car or a bike in order to keep you entertained.

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the view from the rooms. We stayed on the 9th floor and had a stunning view of the sea. You do not feel that you are in big hotel with many rooms, as you cannot see the other balconies or hear other guests. The property is well maintained, but the design is seventies with a touch of communism - even though it was placed on the western side of the border that divided Germany in two for many years. Within few years, this will be so retro that it will get boutique quality (-;
The kitchenette was very small and ackwardly placed in the hallway. We felt that the extra bedroom and kitchen were not originally planned that way, but set up later on.
The service was nice and they spoke English with a very cute German accent in the reception. We came already at 3 pm and could easily check-in. We felt lucky that we came early, as there seemed to be a lot of people around 5 pm during rush hour for checkin. Otherwise, there were not that many people. We could imagine that the place will feel very crowded with the small elevators and narrow hallways during the high season.
We did not eat in the restaurants at IFA as they did not look very inviting with menus full of standard tourist food.
Fehmarn is a nice island for a weekend trip.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the rooms at the higher levels, so you will not end with a view of the glass roof...

Interesting -- over 100 reviews and not one in English, doubtless because few English or American guests stay here. It's very much a beach resort, and I suppose English tourists looking for a European beach vacation will always tend to head further south for sunnier weather. And it's off the usual tourist routes for Americans. The clientele seem to be mainly German and Danish families and groups of teenagers.

We stayed here for a night as a convenient stop-off before catching the car-ferry to Denmark next morning. The hotel is a self-contained resort, rather like a mini Disneyland by the beach. Three big high-rise buildings, with multiple restaurants, game rooms, swimming pools, sauna, gym, kid's play areas etc. NIce ocean views, especially from the upper floors. The facility seemed to me to have a bit of a communist East Germany feel to it, although the site was just on the west side of the old border -- functional and rather dated. The elevators are small, and since the facility is high-rise and densely populated you can find yourself waiting a while for an available elevator, especially around check-out times. Rooms are comfortable enough. Breakfast was plentiful and decent. Service was OK. It had a bit of a production-line take-a-number vibe -- inevitably, perhaps, considering the size of the place. The desk clerks all spoke sufficient English to cope with linguistically-challenged Anglos like us.

The nearest town, Burg auf Fehrman, is lively. We had a pleasant and reasonably-priced dinner at Fischbistro Kombuse.

For our limited purposes, this hotel was fine.
