The best of both worlds, we had it all...sun, sand, and the bustle of beaching, AND shade, swimming, hammock swaying, and serenity!
This year was our fifth time to stay at West Bay Lodge, and each visit has been a trip of a lifetime, and rewarding in a variety of different ways! We never had a "dull" moment at West Bay Lodge, even when we were swaying lazily in the hammock on our bungalow porch while reading a book, taking a break from beaching, snorkeling, shopping, taking a vigorous walk across the top of the island, oh, and we won't forget...eating the delicious meals at Celseste's!!!
Celsete and Milos are awesome hosts, accommodating our every need, and the staff members, wonderful young people, were so sweet and helpful, that we felt right at home, away from home.
With just 8 bungalows nestled among banana trees and other gorgeous tropical foliage, West Bay Lodge gave us privacy and the feeling of seclusion though we're only 3 minutes from the beach! And that's the best part...in just a three minute walk down a little street across from the Lodge, we had the ocean, sand, sun, and people from cruises and other resorts. And, when we were "done with the sun" we just went back to our tropical paradise of shade and pool, quiet and privacy to relax around the refreshing pool or hit the hammock!
Where some other resorts charge for drinking water, Celeste and Milos supply each bungalow with 3 gallon water dispensers, unlimited without charge. And, wifi is complimentary for anyone who just needs to "be in touch"! The bungalows are so pretty and "islandy", and each is individual and unique.
For the past 4 years Bill and I have stayed for 2 weeks, and each stay at WBL just makes us certain that we'll be back the next year. Only this year, I was spoiled, and Bill and I were there for our 2 weeks, then he returned home on the flight that brought 2 of my friends for a third week! It was fun for me to "show off" our home away from home to my friends, because I knew they would love it at WBL and they did!
If you want a quiet, relaxing, happy place to be on Roatan, WBL is the place to stay. From there, we could reach and enjoy all the wonderful and funfilled aspects of the island, and return "home" to our own little bungalow, complete with all the charm of "the island"! And, incidentally, we found that WBL is where we got the biggest bang for our buck!
