“Ahhh..... Christmas at Bananarama!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Ahhh... Christmas at Bananarama! We missed a Montreal snow storm and had the IIHF Junior Hockey Tournament on the bar TV. Life is good. Jessica was serving primo breakfasts while Eddison, Steven, Sandra and the rest of the staff tended bar at Thirsty Turtle. Hope to see you all again very soon! The diving was tremendous with Martin lucking out and showing us wild dolphins on Christmas day - mask, snorkel, fins and in - how cool is that? Mal did a great job with the kids OW cert and my DM, Marco showed me a few sites I hadn't been to yet. He finds all the cool stuff. 14 dives over 8 days.

We enjoyed dinner Christmas day at the Vintage Pearl - the food and service were excellent. Top dollar but worth it. And no shoes allowed - perfect!

I must say the cruise ships are not a welcome site. The beach is invaded through the middle of the day and Lewis and Jeff are still scrubbing the control system to ensure resort guests are treated with the respect, space and service they deserve. We settled our grumpiness over some complimentary banana splits. Settled like gentlemen!

Room Tip: We stayed in a cabana... was comfortable but nor "fancy". You may want to put up a few e...

This is our third trip as a family to this wonderful resort which also manages Island Pearl where we've stayed in the ocean front bungalows (beautiful!). Our two teen girls learned to scuba with Mal and his excellent staff (Marco, Mark, Brian and gang) at the PADI certified dive shop the first year and we've come back to enjoy this beautiful slice of paradise again and again. The staff at the resort is excellent; friendly and accomodating and we are impressed that many of the staff have remained since our first visit (Carolina, Jessica, Shawnee) and recall us instantly! They all go out of their way to make you feel compfortable and by the end of ten days, we count all of them as family! The Thirsty Turtle with its friendly and good natured staff (Zebby, Steven, Angela) is the hang-out place for adults and kids, and the pizza bar was a wonderful addition. We enjoyed a fantastic meal (and we are foodies) at Vintage Pearl restaurant on New Year's Eve. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and wonderful diving and snorkeling right off the beach. The highlight this trip was swimming with dolphins in the ocean on our way to a dive site! Doesn't get any better than that!

We stayed at Bananarama with our two teens over New Years. The place is the perfect combo of just enough comfort, but still a local, casual and authentic feel, not some huge luxury resort. Bar is great, as is the pizza oven. Just simple, casual beach and bar food.

Most impressive is the service. They have been able to create a near-US level of service on Roatan, which is not the common experience in other restaurants and facilities on the island. Most of Roatan operates on "island time", which means it can take forever to get anything. Bananarama staff, on the other hand, were attentive and detail oriented. Any issues were handled with an efficient smile. And there were some issues, including frequent power outages due to a busy time on the island stressing capacity, but Bananarama kept it all together for us and gave us friendly and personal service. Security is also very good, and very visible. They do an excellent job of making sure they control access especially when the beach is filled with day trippers from cruise ships.

And the beach! Best in the world. Unbeatable clear flat water and clean fine sand which they maintain very well.

Visit this place before it disappears and gets turned into a huge, sterile, luxury hotel. Today Bananarama has a great combination of both casual comfort and charm.

Second day of a seven day stay, Totally enjoying the island, spent all day sight seeing, good to back in the room relaxing, getting ready for the night life in the west end. As for the Resort, its real nice, check in is easy, they were already expecting us when we arrived, we were given a tour of the property and of the activities that they offer, bar and resturant are right on the beach, clear blue water and nice cool breeze, no dress code required. Rooms are very comfortable, ac, microwave, minifridge, coffeepot, no tv but don't really need it. Great wifi...good for keeping up with family back home and posting pics.

Not much you can add that's already been written about Bananarama. What truly makes this place special is the people. From the owners to the landscapers, the dive shop, Vintage Pearl and everyone in between..just awesome. That's why we decided to have our wedding here. The weather wasn't great but no matter everything else was. Thanks so much to everyone at Bananarama. We will be back.

We have stayed at Bananarame, Island Pearl 4 times now and we will be returning again. Dive shop, all the staff and accommodations are unbeatable. It's the best location on West Bay, the calmest beach, amazing snorkeling and diving on the reef. Not a fussy resort more laid back Island style. No need for shoes at beach restaurants, Vintage Pearl restaurant very good for fine dining and Thirsty Turtle have the best barmen and woman, always smiling, great with kids too. Good food and pizza casual on beach front at the Thirsty Turtle. Have seen many improvements over the years, good security too. Can't beat this for Roatan vacation!

Just returned from a one week stay at Bananarama with my two teens, husband & friends. This was our 4th trip to the island. We normally stay at Henry Morgan but due to different factors decided to try Bananarama.

First off, Jane was an absolute gem to deal with by email, answering my emails promptly & having great patience with my questions. Jeff the manager & owner Louis were friendly & on site. Chatting with guests, providing information, etc. The staff, from security, to waitstaff, to bartenders, to reception, to housekeeping & grounds people were friendly & helpful.

Steven was on time to pick us up at airport & was also friendly and informative. We stayed in cabins 1 & 5 our first three nights and moved to 14 on our last night. Cabins 1 & 5 were sweet, 5 being more spacious. Both would be great for a couple. Number 14 had a bedroom with king bed, a double futon, as well as a double bed in a loft area accessed by a ladder. Great for our family of four & would fit 5 comfortably. Good sized fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, etc. Very nice big deck with 2 big rockers and a hammock. Another bonus, plenty of hooks to hang suits, etc.

The grounds are lush and green, giving the property a more exotic feel....the paths to the different rooms meander through the trees, very pretty. Water pressure was great in 14, sporadic in 5, but not an issue for us. Air conditioning worked perfectly. Towels were thick, fluffy & spotlessly clean. Beach towels as well which we were always able to get. They reserve the area in front of the beach units at Island Pearl for hotel guests only when cruise ships are in, this is a nice touch as it does indeed get very, very busy. We were aware it was going to be busy while were were there so this isn't a complaint, just an observation. It would be nice if a certain number of chairs could be set aside just for hotel guests as they did run out of chairs on one day & guests of the hotel couldn't get chairs. This could be difficult to manage though.

We enjoyed very much our meals at the Thirsty Turtle, trying nearly everything on the menu! We were on the meal plan which worked well for our family. The meal at Vintage Pearl was amazing, I highly recommend trying it. * note: I do think breakfast should start earlier. It starts at 7:45 for divers but personally I think that's a bit late. 7:30 for all guests would be better.

Once again, staff was wonderful, they are to be commended. Property is sweet, rustically charming......The beach in front while a bit narrower than other sections of beach is absolutely stunning. Loved the raft!

We have fallen in love with Roatan & will return, and most likely to sweet Bananarama.
